I have been an Ask Andy member for more years than I can remember - I am 86. I joined at the personal invitation of Andy. He walked into Chipp , introduced himself to me, and asked me to join.
We spoke a number of times through the years.
I have gone from my days in NYC where everyone in advertising, law, banking, or you name it wore a suit and tie to work, to my personal move to NJ 21 years ago where some restaurants still had " Jacket and Tie required" signs on the door to the present where those same restaurant welcome you on a Saturday nite - if you can get a reservation - wearing a sweat shirt and dirty sneakers.
What is important is for each individual ,in terms of clothing, is to do what is important to them. If dressing in a certain way makes you feel good, you should.
The followers of the Andy forum care more than the public at large.
My wife of 59 years thinks everything I create in my tie business is stupid and in poor taste. I do it because I think it is funny. I do it for myself.
Life is full of choices - do you look better in a spread collar or a BD, do you prefer meat sauce or calm sauce, do you believe in a supreme being, do you lean to one candidate or the other -
What ever you think, MAYBE YOU ARE WRONG

Some of us are around and just lurking...

I discovered AAAC when Andy got a mention in Playboy magazine and have never really lost touch with it. I learned a lot and am a bit bemused, but mostly amused, at how much attitudes about clothing have changed.

I've been retired for a couple of years but throughout my entire career I wore suits and ties to work (braces were my trademark and I threw on a bowtie fairly regularly), continuing to do so when one company made business casual an option and subsequently managing to land at places where if suits weren't standard, they at least didn't seem to raise eyebrows.

Now, other than doctors appointments or going out to dinner, I don't have many excuses to put on a suit, but I do when I can, and I still enjoy the occasional compliment when I do. I also continue to apply the principles I've learned like coordinating colors, fabrics, textures, and footwear to my casual wear. At some point I'll try Poshmark or some other secondhand sales vehicle to start winnowing down my former work pieces but for now, like me, they're just hanging around and enjoying life.

I just realized that I have been a member here for almost 20 years. Few members of that time are still around and posting.

Interesting that several of you mention dressing up for the doctor. I dress down for the doctor, according them and the phlebotomist ready access.
I thought maybe I misread that? I’ve never heard of dressing up to see the doctor. I go with jeans and a shirt thats easily removed. I also like short sleeve in case they need to draw blood.

And then they tell you to get undressed afterwards, they tell you to cough and then give you a heart scan examination or those prostate exams which is very uncomfortable (for the guys over the age of 45) 😉

"Dressing up" is a relative term I guess. To me it means anything from a suit to a blazer/sportcoat. I dress up for the Dr and Dentist. Not sure why, just always have. Because they're professionals, maybe. Attorneys too. I'm dressing up when I visit my attorney.
