I'm not sure there's much nuance to be had here. Not every aspect of men's clothing needs to be parsed and pondered over. If the belt looks good then go with it.

As I mentioned in a previous post, the buckle and grain of the leather (assuming we're discussing leather belts) determines whether it's appropriate for wearing with chinos.
Ha ! This from a man borrowing an image of Oscar Wilde. I imagine that a minor detail such as the width of a belt would have been of the utmost importance to the aesthete par excellence. :icon_study:

The idea of Oscar Wilde picking out khakis is hilarious.

Anyway, I tend to prefer narrower belts. I don't have a problem wearing even a 1" belt with jeans, but it's certainly a choice. I think most of the belts I like are either 1" or 1.25".

I have a 1.25" bridle belt that looks fine with my jeans, and the jeans I prefer have wide belt loops (because why wear "cowboy pants" that aren't actually official Pro Rodeo wear?)

The point is not one with regard to Wilde choosing to don a pair of chino trousers , but pertaining to the significance of sartorial details. Wilde stated that clothes should hang from the shoulders.

1.25 to 1.5 inches is fine.

It depends on the rest of the outfit, and yes, there is an aesthetic consideration that Oscar Wilde would have paid attention too.

If wearing it with a suit, I don't want a belt that will draw attention to itself because of the buckle or it's width. I don't want it poking out nor do I want it to ruin the lines of the suit.

With casual slacks it's a different story and I think a 1.5 inch belt or perhaps even 2 inches will be fine.

I agree with your sentiments regarding the gulf between the appropriate belt to be worn with chinos and pajamas outside the residence. (And I am one that suffers from analysis paralysis at times.) However, I believe that the OP is after a more discerning and nuanced reply than the standard " it's all good " or " whatever works " rejoinder.

Please see their request as per # 5...
If you're going 2 inches, avoid the Rory Sabbatini buckle, please.
I think this is going to be my final choice
