Hi Charles would you please be kind enough to provide me with your feedback regarding my latest post? Thank you - JakeI think they are too short.
Hi would you please be kind enough to provide me with your feedback regarding my latest post? Thank you - JakeThose don’t look right at all…you shortened them too much and ruined the look.
Hi Matt would you please be kind enough to provide me with your feedback regarding my latest post? Thank you - JakeA pea coat should be a little longer than your seat. These pea coats need to be about 4 inches longer to look properly proportioned and to keep you warmer. Other than the length they fit pretty well. I recommend buying another one of these and leaving the length alone. If the tailor who shortened these didn’t question your decision to shorten them, you need a better tailor. A good tailor wouldn’t have done this.
Thank you very much for your quick and honest feedback sir. That is really appreciated,The trousers look better, but the pea coats do not. The length of the coats still look too short on you, and the coats themselves look ill proportioned because the bottom buttons and pockets are too close to the bottom.
When you consider the length of a coat or jacket, think about how it relates to the body. A jacket traditionally either ends above or below your seat so it follows the natural shape of your body. When a jacket ends in the middle of your seat, like your shortened pea coats do, it's messing with the natural proportions of the human body. It gives the impression of wider hips and thighs and a stubby torso.
I agree with Matt.Hi Charles would you please be kind enough to provide me with your feedback regarding my latest post? Thank you - Jake
Thank you very much Charles. I am very grateful and much appreciated.I agree with Matt.
Thank you very much for your information and advice. I will certainly bear it in mind. Thank you. You've received good responses, most seem accurate, but they're not deal breakers. You can wear these coats.
Yes, the shortness goes against the pea coat tradition, but that's all it is, tradition. Coats in other styles as short as yours are often worn.
The buttons and pockets now appearing closer to the hemline do not throw the proportions off, as they often will, but not here. What does look off is the fitted nature of the jacket, particularly at the hips. Pea coats are sack coats and fall free from the shoulders with little or no suppression.
Here's what you can do. Move the latching buttons two inches closer to the jacket opening. This will give you two inches more of drape. But it's a trade-off. When fully buttoned, the opening vee at the top of any double breasted coat always occurs directly at the midline of the buttons. Moving them will push this vee off center, but barely noticeable compared to the tightness of the jackets as they now are at your hips.
For future thought, beware of any alterations involving scissors. Yes you can take in and take up, but the excess should be left inside and under the linings. Just in case.
You look very stylish and I can understand the length from your photo. Thank you very much for sharing and for your help.Wearing my peacoat today. Posting for reference.

Hello and Happy New Year to everyone!
I was wondering if I could please have some advice.
I recently purchased a couple of Peacoats from Ted Baker and Lands End.
Although they fitted me nicely I found that they were a little too long in length.
So I had them shortened a little.
I have found that when I wear them now I can see the edge of my trousers pockets protruding a little from the bottom of the Peacoats (please see photos).
And with the grey Peacoat, I've put an arrow on my side profile pic to show you what I mean.
I was a little worried that I may have shortened them a bit too much?
I was also wondering if the fit looks ok please?
Please feel free to take a look at the photos of me wearing them.
All feedback and honest advice is most welcome.
Thank you very much for reading and I appreciate your help.
Regards
Jay

I agree with others, too short. They also fail as pea coats from color, style, and shape. You need a real Navy pea coat. They are available.Hello and Happy New Year to everyone!

Try World War II Impressions. If you email them they may have peacoats coming in stock: US NavyI had tried to get some navy spec sterlingwear pea coat when they were still in the business. But I never managed to get the size 46L I needed and then it all ended unfortunately. Sad to see peacoats not being used anymore in the US Navy.
The Tanker jacket looks interesting. Two models and warm for winter. With either patch front pockets, or hidden pockets inside.Try World War II Impressions. If you email them they may have peacoats coming in stock: US Navy
