Hello and Happy New Year to everyone!

I was wondering if I could please have some advice.

I recently purchased a couple of Peacoats from Ted Baker and Lands End.

Although they fitted me nicely I found that they were a little too long in length.

So I had them shortened a little.

I have found that when I wear them now I can see the edge of my trousers pockets protruding a little from the bottom of the Peacoats (please see photos).

And with the grey Peacoat, I've put an arrow on my side profile pic to show you what I mean.

I was a little worried that I may have shortened them a bit too much?

I was also wondering if the fit looks ok please?

Please feel free to take a look at the photos of me wearing them.

All feedback and honest advice is most welcome.

Thank you very much for reading and I appreciate your help.

Regards
Jay

I bought a Ralph Lauren Peacoat last year. To be honest, they are a bit long but I appreciate that about them. The Midwest winters are quite nasty at times. I found that out last night when my car wouldn't start and I had to walk at least one mile to a friend's house. At least I had my gloves, scarve and that tall collar. Unfortunately, I was not wearing a hat of any kind.

Thank you for your feedback. Ralph Lauren must be a lovely peacoat.

It works fine. I saw it at Macy's but I had to order one because I wanted it large enough to wear with a Shetland crew neck. By the way, on yours that little piece of pocket showing on the bottom should be no big deal. You could probably have the bottom of that pocket folded a little on its bottom and some stitching done to hold it to the rest of the pocket.

A pea coat should be a little longer than your seat. These pea coats need to be about 4 inches longer to look properly proportioned and to keep you warmer. Other than the length they fit pretty well. I recommend buying another one of these and leaving the length alone. If the tailor who shortened these didn’t question your decision to shorten them, you need a better tailor. A good tailor wouldn’t have done this.

I agree 100%. That said, in many areas it can be a challenge to find a good tailor. Alteration shops abound, but typically the proprietors know nothing about menswear or classic style, but simply do what you ask, albeit usually skillfully. A true tailor not only has tailoring skills but sufficient classic style knowledge to ask good questions and prevent mistakes.
