I received this notification in today's mail:

Apart what's in the flyer, I don't know anything more about the event.

Sounds like Edward Green are falling on hard times. I certainly hope that is not a correct interpretation of the flyer. As Edward Green's best UK customer for the last two years ( a title I plan to relinquish now!) I am surprised I haven't had one of these flyers:confused:

Hello Bengal,

Thanks very much for the tip. I wonder exactly what this sale will entail-will it be seconds and discontinued shoes and will the prices be lower than in the normal Jermyn Street sales etc? Anyway regardless of all that, thank you so much for sharing the information. I shall certainly try to make it if I can.

All the best,

Chris.

Reminds me of 50s posters, - 1850s that is.

There's a legible phone number at the bottom of the sheet, I wonder if they will be guarded in their comments ? no reason to be though, I hope they will be keen to entice people in for the "Exceptional Factory SALE

PS, thanks also from me Bengal for sharing, looking forward to post 1000.

How do you manage to be EG's best UK customer with all those Church's ?

Church's prices are more affordable for sure.

Hello Franko. I am sure you will go, having been to Northampton before.

Nine o'clock kick off for the good stuff though. Set your alarm for early.

Hello everyone,

Just received the following email from the Factory regarding the sale.

EDIT: Having received this first email I got back in touch with the factory because of the £395 price for seconds. I asked whether the sale shoes in Jermyn Street were therefore seconds and apparently they are. The £360/£395 price points during the last sale were determined by the overall condition of the shoes apparently. I know there have been several discussions about the sale in the past and whether the shoes were perfect or not. Hope this clears things up a little then.

I believe the imperfect shoes at JS were between £360.00 and £395.00 depending on the condition

Hope this helps,
Chris

I can confirm that the imperfect shoes will be £395.00 and perfect from £450.00. There will also be some bargains
available, moccasins for example at £50.00 and oddments from £100.00 upwards

I have become rather a collector of fine English shoes so whilst having many Church's ( and yes they are more affordable not only to buy but to repair also) I ventured into EG early 2007 and was wowed by the beauty and quality of the shoes. Are they worth £200 a pair more than Church's? I doubt it but they are worth more.

So, whilst I do tend to be a bit of a collector ( in my nature) I need to slow right down now for financial reasons - one cannot go on forever spending thousands of pounds on shoes one doesn't truly need!!

P.S It was the staff at the Jermyn Street shop who told me I am the UK best customer for 2007 and 2008 ( no figures for 2009 yet) - they had just been looking through their records when I rang up about an order!

Hello,

Did anyone manage to make it to the sale in the end? If so, what was the selection like and what bargains could you get in the way of "oddments" etc? I wasn't able to justify the trip myself this time but I'd love to hear how those of you who could make it got on. Vicarious shoe shopping is almost as much fun as the real thing!

Thanks very much,

Chris.
