What exactly is the definition of "double-soled" shoe?

Thanks, Bob.
I have heard of Trickers (only on this forum) but don't really know them. Shoes are a new interest of mine. So it just means extra-thick leather soles? Two layers of leather with what in between? What is the point, the effect, etc? Thanks.

Church's seem to call theirs a " Heavy weight sole - Goodyear Welted Leather sole / Leather 1/4 Rubber Tip". It looks rather like the pictures above and can be found on models like the Carne and Shannon. I would imagine it is the same as what other people call a double sole.

This shoes have thick leather sole. But they have only single leather sole.
There are two layers of leathers-welt and a sole.
Can you call them double soled shoes?

That actually is a double sole, with two layers of sole material. No cow hide is that thick when finished. If you look closely at the bright parts along the edge, you can see a faint line that is consistent along the side...that is the boundary between the two layers. They're probably just glued together so tight they look like one layer.

Actually, I think that is the seam between welt and sole. Below that, there are a few extra layers of leather. The welt itself seems to be thicker than average, as well.

No, I mean the line below that. There are two distinct lines, though the seam between sole and welt is more pronounced.

I have a pair of double soled shoes -- the Weston 598, also called demi-Chasse, as the Chasse is a TRIPLE soled shoe. As you can see from the pictures they were a bit beat up when I received them. It took only 15 minutes to recondition the leather and get the sole edging back to dark brown.

Funny thing is I don't actually like wearing them. My thinnest soled shoes, and also most comfortable, are my Santoni Brenden Balogna constructed 3/4 soled shoes. Then my Allen Edmonds Goodyear constructed single soled shoes. Then my Alden, which because of the steel shank are a little stiffer, but still single soled. Then these Weston, which are thick soled like biker boots, and are quite stiff as a result. I think I will sell them next month.
