Wool Pants - Lined or Unlined?

Hello All -

Some wool pants are lined inside(to varying degrees) and others are not - is this an indication of quality or function? What is the purpose of the lining?

Also, should lined pants feel cooler or warmer?

Thanks in advance

In dry weather, unlined wool can cling to the thighs badly due to static electricity. Lining, of course, helps prevent this, thus allowing the trousers to hang more attractively.

I have both, but I don't think it really matters. I suppose the lining helps keep you warmer in winter - but in this day and age when interiors are kept so warm to begin with that may not be such a good thing after all. I like the idea of lining white summer pants though.

Lined pants feel a lot better than unlined wool pants against your skin. Maybe I'm just a sensitive guy though :D

Disagree - much prefer unlined against my thighs, especially when your suits are super soft wools. Other advantage is that pant drape seems more natural and flowing. No tension between lining and exterior fabric. Disdavantage? unlined dont last as long.

Only brand that I know of that make unlined pants as part of the suit were Gianni Versace Couture (Inco-made = Zegna). I say "were" because a recent suit bought from GVC was lined!!!! [}:)]

I always liked the unlined wool slacks I got years ago, but today I can only get lined it seems, at least most are. I don't know why the insist on lining gabs though, makes no sense to me, as the whole point is for a cool pair of summer weight pants.
