Why can't Brooks Brothers seem to get an order out in a decent amount of time?

As much as they charge for shipping and handling, why does it often take Brooks Brothers so long to get a basic shirt to you. I bought 3 during their Friends and Family sale and am still waiting for a basic pink OCBD to arrive. They've put off the shipment date twice already! I just took advantage of their 2/99 sale on shirts and once again they are telling me it will be yet another week before shipment of one of the shirts I ordered and I'm still waiting on the other. Both were listed as being in stock. Lands' End is much speedier and dependable for crying out loud. Why does Brooks Bros. advtertise goods they won't have in stock for weeks?

They can be a tad slow...seems like it's usually about a day or two after the order (assuming it's in stock, doesn't require any alterations, and wasn't placed over a weekend). I really wonder if they don't speed it up a little for better customers, believe it or not. When I first started ordering from them, they took a long time to ship. Now, I've noticed that the seem to get merchandise out to me better. I'm not sure about this, but I have a suspicion.

I ordered two OCBDs during the sale last week (Friday night), they shipped right after the holiday weekend and I got them this morning via FedEx. So one week from order to arrival with a holiday weekend in between isn't bad with standard ground shipping.

That said, I did order a couple of Black Fleece shirts during the sale last year, which ended up being cancelled by BB.

I also took advantage of the sale and was annoyed that my shirts were back ordered, until June 25.

However, the one BB sized shirt I have is a little loose at the collar so I ordered down a size. This morning while doing laundry I noticed that the reason it was loose was that it was a size larger than I thought. I debated canceling the order or just waiting until they came in and exchanging them.

In the end, I emailed customer service and asked that they change the size or cancel the order if they couldn't change it. I got a reply in about ten minutes saying that the order was changed.

I will be quite pleased with BB if my order comes in as corrected.

I'm not convinced that BB shirts are worth the cost, even at the sale price, but they are so well thought of here that I thought I should give them a fairer try.

I'm still waiting for a pair of shirts from the two-for-$99 sale, and I'm not a bit impatient.

One, they're oxford cloth, so it will be fall before they go into heavy rotation. Two, I saved on shipping by calling up the St. Louis store, explaining that I'd like to pay for them now to take advantage of the sale price and just pick them up next time I'm in town--I'm there once a month or so. No problem, they'll call me when the pink (why is the pink always out of stock?) arrives and my order is ready. Three, while offering stuff they don't actually have is a bit irritating, you can't beat BB for customer service. If something goes sideways, they make it right, always. Prime example: An OCBD that developed a hole in the collar a year after I bought it. They took it back and gave me a full cash refund, even though I would have been satisfied with a store credit. Now, how many stores would do that? A few, I'm sure, but very few with the absence of hassles I've always experienced at BB. A lot of folks here complain about BB, and for some legitimate reasons, but I can't recall a case in which someone got ripped off.

Despite the fact that I started this thread in a moment of frustration...I am a devoted fan of Brooks Bros. and find their quality outstanding. Much of my wardrobe is BB and I really am a loyalist. My complaint really is a minor one all things considered. Just wanted to clarify--perhaps I was being a bit picky. I would never want to denigrate my favorite clothier. I'd just like to see a little tweaking in their service at times. Having said that...still waiting on my pink ocbd from their F&F sale. The web site is currently offering it in my size which I don't understand if they are out. Oh well...no real worries. I can wait.

You might want to call customer service. I had a similar situation where a clearance shirt I had my eye on disappeared during FF, then magically reappeared afterward. Customer service honored the FF price.

These morons called Brooks Brothers put off the shipment four times already in my case. It was not even a sale. Just an ordinary order for a full price. It is the worst online store I ever met. The worst part of it is there is no way to annul my order on their web site. They also ignore all the letters. Just morons.

I've placed three orders in the last two weeks.

The first two were placed one day apart via the website and both shipped the following day and arrived 3-4 days after shipping

Yesterday, the b&m store had to call in an order for me since they didn't have my size. That order shipped yesterday and is scheduled for a Monday delivery.

Pretty good results IMHO.

First week of Feb. I ordered three OCBDs. Two blue, one uni stripe. All three were in stock according to the website and the confirmation email. I think nothing of it, and a week later the package shows up with just the two blue OCBDs. So I call and ask, apparently the uni stripe was back ordered, they didn't charge me, it would be sent out early March, fine. Early march comes, nothing from BB, call again, back ordered again to early April. I might get it this month, we'll see.

I think the iconic BB must-iron OCBD is definitely worth the cost. It is a shirt I recommend without hesitation. The worth of all other BB items is debatable.
I would add BB repp ties to that. They are reasonably priced when on sale and good quality. Although there are plenty of other options in that price range, unlike the OCBD's.

I would include their bow ties, but I find them kind of small. They are probably fine for folks who don't have fat faces, but I need a good 2.5" bow. 2.25" doesn't cut it.

I've ordered from BB many times over the past 4 or 5 years and while they don't ship as fast as Lands End or LLB, I don't have any complaints. I will say however that at some point I stopped ordering through their website and always call (or visit) my local store to place an order (if the store doesn't have it in stock). The shipments have always made it to me in just a few days time when I let the salesman place the order, plus, there is the added bonus of no shipping charges... ever.
