Any thoughts on whether a belt counters the rumpled casualness of linen?

 

There certainly is no concern wearing a belt with linen although I agree that a very formal belt might not fit as well with this casual outfit. Suede is a bit more casual so I think you would do fine with that as a belt, although since you are matching texture I wouldn't go for too close a match in color. If you go with a leather option then perhaps braided would suit your desire for a less formal option. I am not a fan of cloth belts or hybrids and certainly that is a choice, but probably more suited with deck shoes or the like.

 

 

I also like surcingle belts. And you can get them embroidered also, and not just fish. A tarpon fly on olive, or sailboat on navy works very nicely.
