I don't have a pic but I saw him doing an interview wearing a peak lapel suit by Hugo Boss. He looked pretty good, I guess.

Ironic? Intentional?

I still prefer The Night of the Generals, which dealt with some of the same subject matter. A heroic Nazi is still a Nazi.
I can't say for certain because I haven't looked it up, but I don't think von Stauffenberg was a Nazi. Remember, the Nazi Party was nothing more than a German political party. To say that von Stauffenberg was a Nazi is no different than declaring that some American General today is a Republican simply because we have a Republican President.

The German Army had many honorable officers and men, along with some that were not so honorable, who were merely doing their duty to their country, no different than soldiers do in other countries. They can't all be blamed for the political decisions of their leaders. It was because not all of the German Army agreed with the Nazi policies that Hitler had to form the SS. Those guys WERE Nazis. There is a big difference in soldiers serving their country and an organization like the SS.

I don't know how honorable you can be to attempt to assassinate someone by leaving a bomb and hightailing it.
I have no idea if von Stauffenberg was an honorable man or not. My only point was that being in the German army during World War II did not mean that someone was a Nazi. Many German officers and men were simply soldiers serving their country with no affiliation whatsoever with the Nazi Party.

I have a friend who's father was in the German Army during the war and he was a very honorable man. My friend later retired as a decorated Sgt. Major in the U.S. Army.

Great men like Bonhoffer were part of the same plot, and when you are attempting to stop a man from Hitler from murdering 12 million people while risking your life and the lives of those who are working with you, then I think you are doing the honorable thing. It's easy to die, it's harder to live in times like those, in my opinion.

And I do believe that Hugo Boss got it's recognition doing the uniforms, and lets be honest, it was one of the best looking political movements in our time.

Nazi Germany , unless future history holds greater horrors, seems doomed to the archtype of national evil.
But make no mistake that all nations and ethnic groups have their own ignobilities.
And if we had our LT Calley in Vietnam, remember a brave helicopter pilot and his door gunner were fully prepared to fire on that group of fellow soldiers.
I was in the store earlier, standing in line and looked over at the bargain DVD bin.
There was Robert Redford as THE HORSE WHISPERER, a book and movie that had every horsey girl showing up in prussian spurs and jodhpurs to let the unwashed masses know THEY WERE EQUESTRIANS.
A year from now nobody will care very much, and probably notice The BLUES BROTHERS for $5 instead of poor Tom and his Van Huesen eyepatch.
Remember " I hate Illinois nazis!"

Von Stauffenberg was no Nazi party member. Cruiser's analogy is pretty much spot on.

Hugo Boss did all the uniforms. It makes me wonder what happened to their sense of aesthetics in the decades following! But hey, if they can make Tom Cruise look good and/or taller in a suit, all the more power to them.

That's how the German army wanted to be seen after the war - the nice soldiers from the Wehrmacht and the SS committing atrocities. More and more historians proof that it wasn't that simple.

And those men of the 20. July like Staufenberg most certainly did not think of a democratic Germany.

P.S.: Hugo Boss was a convinced Nazi. Even after the war.

I'm pretty sure Hugo Boss died a long, long time ago. Therefore, any discussion beyond how Tom Cruise looks in the movie, or the authenticity of the wardrobe, is completely useless.

I've mentioned it before but we made his braces (Tom Cruise as Von Stauffenberg) but it looks to me as if they ordered a size too large, actually 2 sizes too large. So no Oscar for best supporting role here, then...
They may not have wanted to order the smallest size... that would be admitting he's not as tall as the movie posters and photography makes him out to be. :p
