Tiffany's signature Schlumberger knots have always been among my favorite pairs. Just noticed that they are now $1950 vs. the former $2500.

Agreed. The Jean Schlumberger designs (exclusive to Tiffany) are fabulous and carry a justified premium over regular Tiffany.

Also agreed that Seaman Schepps are fabulous, unique, and rarely seen even in the auction market.

Last, I would add David Webb to the fabulous class. The enamel animals are great conversation pieces.

All of the foregoing are in 18K gold. None in silver.

I'd like to get these:

If you don't have the double knot design, I think it's one of the most versatile cufflink choices:

I see that Tiffany's prices have gone up recently.

An option for the budget minded shopper might be some 'Tiffany inspired' links.
I got my Tiffany Inspired cufflinks for <$5 on ebay.

I think those branded but non-authentic cufflinks are not worth buying. Reason: It does not give you the quality and expectation. Usually finishing are poor.
Mights as well get non-branded but similar design if you really like the design.

just my 2cents..

i love the look of cufflinks, and especially the ones above the gold one , but alas, i only have one french cuff shirt,
and that has been hanging in my closet untouched for the last 2 years.

I would add a second reason: only phonies wear phonies.

Agreed.

In many cases copies do not have the same metal content and are lighter in weight. Often a copy will be silver plated (over a base metal)rather than solid sterling. Also, the finishing can be cheap.

CAVEAT EMPTOR: COUNTERFEIT TIFFANY JEWELRY IS RAMPANT ON eBAY. COUNTERFEITORS EVEN COPY THE FAMOUS BOX. IT SEEMS THAT COUNTERFEITS ARE PREVALENT ON THE LOWER PRICED ITEMS, ESPECIALLY STERLING SILVER. THEREFORE, BUY CAREFULLY.

^Re: Tiffany fakes on ebay, this has been discussed before, but one of the TV newsmagazine shows did a check on ebay Tiffany items, and the vast majority of the items were fakes. I'm a big ebay user and proponent, but Tiffany is one of those items I just wouldn't touch on ebay. The only way I would consider it is if the items actually were used rather than new. Still, I think the risk is just too great. If you want to buy cufflinks on ebay it's safer--and a greater value--to buy vintage.

What if you get a pair of vintage fakes? :)

How Do I Know How To Identify Fakes

I just paid $130 for a pair of $250 Tiffany Cufflinks. I have no idea how to tell if they are real or fake. I do know however that the ones I bought at Tiffany's look better.

It makes Ebay very frustrating. You don't know if you are getting a slightly used bargain or a piece of junk.

I found this on Ebay interesting.

Alex,

How large is the large knot on these links and are they a solid knot with some weightiness to them? I have thought about getting a pair of these at some point and am trying to ascertain whether they are ostentatious enough for my purposes. Thanks!

I find Tiffany's to be one of the best suppliers of sterling out there. I have a pair of sterling cufflinks from them that my great grandfather had and they still look fantastic :icon_smile_big:

I am quite attracted by a few pairs of silver cufflinks....Are they too "recognizable", or too cliche?
Who cares? If you like them buy them. My wife has quite a few platinum and diamond Tiffany pieces. Do you think she'd ever care if they're "recognizable"? My favorite Tiffany is vintage; most of my cuff links are vintage but I'd certainly have no issues wearing new Tiffany if I liked it!

I think JML was referring not to fake Tiffanys, but rather cufflinks made similar to Tiffanys*, an homage if you will (or thinly veiled plagiarism if you won't). Not sold as Tiffany, and there are some reputable makers that make 'homage' cufflinks (although probably not for $5).

Obviously, it doesn't count if its branded with with "Tiffany & Co." or "T & Co."

I have a pair of cufflinks in what they called the "Crazy Ts" pattern - it's a thin rectangle of silver with random sans-serif capital Ts spread across them.

From a manufacture perspective, it's probably one of their more cheaply made styles. But as it's my last initial, I was more concerned with the style.

To change the subject just a little, I bought a pair of Cartier cufflinks that look like the back of a wristwatch (it says "Cartier / Water Resistant / 925" right on the front) for $400 and I love them. You have to get very close to read them to see that they're Cartier, but you'd have to care that they're Cartier to get that close to begin with.
