Gentlemen: in anticipation of fall, I dug out my tweed jackets this afternoon. Some have surgeon sleeves and some do not. I noticed that those that do have flat buttons. Is it not done to use the ubiquitous leather covered buttons for such sleeves?

Are surgeon sleeves ones with functional buttonholes, or just ones that look like they have functional buttonholes?
That's what I thought -- and I suppose that answers it. Seems like it'd be awfully difficult to button and unbutton those leather-wrapped behemoths, so I imagine that's why they've got the flat buttons.
