I have light colored cashmere sport jacket in a camel color. I'll use a tobacco suede with lighter trousers (gray flannel or tan cavalry twill). Or darker brown suede shoes (Alden 666 tassel loafers) with a darker trouser (medium brown twill). The jacket has texture, so I like the suedes with it.

 

Camel is about the most neutral color one can get, so I'd say anything that doesn't look like you're trying to match your shoes to your jacket will work. I do brown, caramel, and black calf, as well as dark brown and burgundy suede.

 

I'd feel very queasy about matching black shoes with a camel's hair jacket. However, I feel queasy about wearing black shoes with most of my attire.

 

I decided on a pair of black penny loafers by Allen Edmonds. I believe it was a success.

The brown-toned shoes--at least the ones in my closet--looked too monochromatic, as if I were trying to hard.

These shoes made me feel as if my outfit had a "stopping point" if you will. In the browns, I felt like some fantastic woodland creature rising up from the autumn leaves.

To my mind, the "anything but black" post works best. I just cannot imagine wearing black shoes with my camelhair/camel color sportcoats...it borders on being "evil," I think? On the other hand, cordovan #8 has a marvelous richness to it that really compliments a camelhair coat!

Cordovan in black cherry or Alden # 8 or Alden Cigar. Not the bright red cherry.
Or brown is ok. To me the surface interest of the Camel hair would

I wouldn't be able to decide which color shoes to wear until I decide on the color of the pants. If I wore grey pants I could wear cordovan or brown, if I wore black pants (unlikely) I would wear black shoes, if I wore a lighter color pants I would wear a tan shoe.

 

Again, I don`t see why black shoes are frowned upon so much. Black shoes fit with anything, including camel.

I`m not saying brown shoes don`t fit. They are nice with camel and well as black.

 

I have a preference for cordovan/burgundy shoes but held back on some occasions and defaulted to black shoes. But after what I have read in various threads on this website I say let the fashion arbiters be damned from now on I will wear burgundy shoes with almost everything. As far as I am concerned burgundy is the new black!. I pledge to wear cordovan/burgundy shoes with even a black suit except in the most formal occasions. So if you see a strange man walking down the street with a great suit but wearing burgundy shoes wave to him because it will probably be me. ;>) Unless you don't want people to know that you are associated with the weird guy with the inappropriate shoes.

 

Cordovan tassle loafers. Brown shoes will launch a faux color battle with the jacket. Black shoes just won't work for whatever reason. People tend to try and dress up a camel hair blazer too much. Stay causual, turtlenecks are best with a large tartan plaid pant scheme, is just one idea.
