I'm just about ready to give a pair of the Russell Moccasin-made penny loafers a try.

Any objections to be heard from those who have been disappointed in/by Russell's products?

Cheers,
Harris

I’ve retrieved an old,old thread from the originator of the Trad Forum “Harris”. He first put me on to Russell Moccasins when I first joined AA (no not that one) in 2006. Today I received a pair of the closest thing to the original Bass Weejun that I’ve seen in over 30 years. I’ve tried posting a photo but the file is too big. Go to Russellmoccasin.com and look at the photo. It is exactly what I got! It’s almost like finding the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow! My size,10EEE we’re on the sale listing and these are perfect! I cannot stress how close these are in quality and replication this shoe is!

And Edit: Pretty darn nice! Agree on all counts.

Hmmm . . . ? :icon_scratch:

Double edit: And they also have it in brown grain, just like the original! Weejun. Things are gettin' hot now!
May you enjoy yours in good health!

Tim, I tried some of those about 7-8 years ago. Only problem was that the stitching in the front of the shoe (I think it is called the plug) is folded over and stitched and makes a rougher looking finished product than the sportoccasin did. On this shoe, the plug is sewn just like the original Weejun. I had high hopes at the time but it just was a bit “off”.

BTW- I tried to post when not signed in and this came across as Guest 425082. Old technology strikes again.

I so rarely buy new shoes that when I have to, I spring for the full-price Russell's. Because I have a short L. leg (thank-you BCT!) I either have to have all my shoes custom made or take them to the cobbler for new soles and heels on that leg. Another of life's minor inconveniences . . .

Yep, When I called to inquire about the ones I bought from the sales listing, I was forwarded to Ralph, who, when I asked if they were still available said " Let me check" and I heard the phone being laid down on the counter. When he came back on the line he said, "Yep and I can ship them out on Monday". I did not have to deal with a computer telling me that there were a zillion of these in stock to then have a message later that said "oops" we were wrong but "how about these purple ones here". Same when I called Rancourt several years ago and the phone was answered " Rancourt Shoes, this is Kyle". For those that do not know, Kyle is the co-owner of the company and has always been a pleasure to deal with. You just cannot beat small family owned companies who know their business and take care of customers.
