I already have a wool coat for the days I need to look more business appropriate.
However I would like a winter jacket or coat that I will use on a every day, casual basis.
Something that would go great with dark denim jeans.

well if you want an honest answer.
Hawaii was "designed" to be what outsiders consider paradise.
for local people its just an everyday place.
the tourism industry brings a lot of money but creates very high land values.
As a result, you have very high rent and high cost of living.
Many locals like to leave Hawaii either due to better employment opportunities (everything here is relegated to the service industry or military bases), dream of home ownership, better education for children.
I actually spend half my time outside of the state due to work.

Yes, my understanding is a lot of people who live there have two jobs.
I don't think many people understand how the costs of many things we take for granted on the mainland are way more expensive there. eg Milk, eggs, beef....

It is expensive for sure, but Shiro's Siamin Haven is still reasonable. The ladies at the Waimalu shop have been there for years and still call me by name. Every time I'm in Hawaii I stop by.

How about a leather jacket? All sorts of styles and prices.

I've seen some of my friends buy casual leather jackets which have a zip-in fleece liner. You could remove the liner for flying and living in Hawaii, and put it in when you travel.

I also enjoy the idea that a leather jacket is a "beat around jacket" in that if you get caught in the rain or snow, it might get a little rumpled, but it isn't permanent. It's utility, but not pretension.
