I have a blue and white Bean Norwegian cardigan, God knows how old - from 1980? It is 20% rayon and hand-washable in cold water.

You can cold-wash in the machine and lay it flat to dry. Or dry clean it.

These will probably be around after a global thermonuclear war. Cockroaches and Norwegian sweaters.

Plus....

the sizing is all over the place. Last month, I bout an size L. It was 2 sizes too small. So I decided to try a XL tall next. It would fit someone 7' tall and 300 lbs (which I am neither).

I hope the new XL Scandanvian fits well.

I think this Norwegian sweater is definitely aimed at the mid-aged market. I just can't see a college student wearing it.
That's exactly the sort of person who wore it in the 80s. Actually a lot of people wore it then, it was quite popular, says mom.

I wore my uncle's around campus (it is an early 80s L, which is a medium today, I suspect). Several preps asked where I'd gotten it and mentioned that they remembered an older sibling or parent having one.

Also once saw a girl at college with one. Great sweater, all around, VS is right, will survive the apocalypse with the cockroaches.

Generally wear with pink or blue oxford. Sometimes the exact 'outfit' from the OPH, just because it does look quite good. Except minus the flagged green polo underneath.

If you are ever "watching a movie" with a girl and the movie happens to be "When Harry Met Sally" if you have a moment actually look at the movie when Harry and Jess are watching the Rangers(?) game...the person immediately behind them is wearing one.

I have two that survived my college days (early 80s), one navy/white the other white/navy. They now belong to She Who Must Be Obeyed (SWMBO). This thread had me delving into her cedar chest in order to try them on. They are size L and unfortunately fit rather tight on me. 80/20. Still in great condition. A classic.

Yeah, Bean's Norweigian sweater is very "college-y". I'm in college and I wear mine....everyone loves it. Timeless!

The new "Scandanavian inspired sweater" by Bean is just a cheap imitation. The original one was 80% wool/ 20% nylon, very heavyweight, and made in Norway. This one is only 60% wool and imported.

I am considering ordering one of the new sweaters, since I have no access to the originals. Does anyone here own both the old sweater (80%) and the new sweater (60%)? How much of a quality difference is there, if any?
