Looking to expand my dress casual wardrobe in advance of the Autumn/Winter. It seems Peter Christian gets good reviews. Going to take advantage of the discount for ordering 2 or more pairs.

Thoughts on colors? For Moleskins, I'm thinking Pine and Loden (wishing they had something in more of a medium Brown). For Corduroys, I'm thinking Moss and either Conker or Toffee (I'm leaning Toffee because the Conker is so dark I have trouble envisioning what sport coat I'd wear with it even though I like the color). Also thinking about picking up a pair of Cavalry Twills in Fawn, but that would be more for work than casual.

Also, I'm assuming that Tweed sport coats will go well with these pants? I have a couple of Harris Tweeds - one in Blue-Grey Nailhead, one in an Olive Green color with an Orange Brown windowpane, as well as some other lively but lighter tweeds - an Brown Herringbone, an Olive Herringbone, several Black and White Herringbones, and a Brown Nailhead. Also a natural Camel Hair and a Gunclub Check. Just providing this info for some advice on pairings. I want to make sure whatever I get will pair well with my tops.

I think you have the UK country look nailed with your ideas. Don't get too wrapped up in the pairings. The entire deal with dressing like a country squire is not to care too much. Within that color range almost anything works well.

I'm not familiar with Peter Christian moleskin trousers, but I am quite happy with a pair of Orvis moleskins I picked up last year. From the Orvis store in Marlton, NJ, in fact, so if you're near that part of NJ, it might be worth a visit. (There's an Orvis store in Princeton, as well, I think. And printed catalog and online shopping options, of course.)

My cords are from Lands End. Hey, gotta keep the inner cheapskate happy now and then. But they're perfectly adequate for casual pants, which is how I've most often wear cords.

Your color choices make sense to me. I do like having a pair of red cords in my closet, along with the rest. Just a thought.

Indeed so.

I will add that the pine are a significantly deeper shade of green than they appear on the website (at least the pair I had were) and should I opt to wear corduroys (I do not) then I would choose the corn, which is to my mind the archetypical country colour for this cloth.

Can you describe what you mean by significantly deeper shade? What attracted me to the Pine was the picture on the website, if you tell me that it looks more like an Emerald green or something, I'll pass.

Absolutely not emerald, but a darker shade of pine. I have the loden, mulberry and imperial. The loden are essential but I find that the mulberry too are very versatile.

Just placed the order. Got the corduroys in Moss and Toffee. Moleskins in Pine and Loden. Cavalry twills in Fawn.

Wife nixed the idea of Corn for the cords. Funny thing is, when we were first dating almost 20 years ago, I used to wear corduroys almost every day during the fall/winter (sadly with acrylic cable knit sweaters, but I didn't know any better at the time) and my wife (then girlfriend) hated them and eventually purged my wardrobe of them. So getting her to accept any at all again is certainly progress.

I'm quite pleased with the cords I got from Orvis last winter. And those that I got from BB. But more pleased with the Orvis cords. They are quite the heavy weight if that appeals to you.

Order came in yesterday afternoon. Very surprised at how quickly they showed up. I'm very happy with all of the pants - they have a generous fit in the seat and medium-high rise yet the legs are relatively slim fitting.

Curious on care of the cords and moles - the label says machine wash gentle on warm (30C) and hang dry. It also has the circle-P which apparently means it can be dry cleaned. What have others with these pants done for cleaning?

^machine wash on 40 degrees (inside out) hang to dry.

I am alarmed that you describe them as slim fitting in the leg. It is a few years now since I obtained mine - the moleskins are exceptionally hard wearing- but they are certainly of a decent cut in the leg. Should I ever need to replace them I would be expecting the same style.

I'll try and post pictures tomorrow. The fit is very similar to the first picture you posted, but my thighs are a little thicker than yours relative to my waist. By slim fitting, I mean not billowy in the legs, which is what I normally end up with when I find pants that are comfortable in the seat and have a decent rise.

Shaver, I bought 2 pair of PC moleskin trousers. They are well made, the fabric is wonderful, but the expandable/stretchy waistband is a big problem....unless you like this sort of waistband, I advise buying from another source.

^Most of my casual trousers are from PC and I appreciate the comfort waist. Although, as you may observe, I am a slim fellow with a stable weight; still the 'give' the contraption permits when bending or otherwise exerting oneself is a benefit.

Might I enquire as to your objections?

I love comfort waistbands. I have a propensity for packing on ~10 lbs over the holidays or vacations and then working them off later, and it saves me from constantly having to have waists altered.

I too find the 'comfort waistband' system rather suspect, and will no longer buy PC trousers fitted with this device. I bought a pair of their cotton trousers with a comfort waistband, and the first time I wore them, the opening to the waistband caught on a door handle, almost ripping the trousers clean off my body. Fortunately I had not yet left the house. No doubt I was somewhat at fault but the same thing has never happened to me with any other pair of trousers.

Makers of good corduroy and moleskin trousers are almost too numerous to mention, but it's worth looking for ones made from Brisbane Moss cloth.

^ I did ponder over the wisdom of disclosing the unfortunate incident, but in the end decided I had to issue some sort of warning about the hidden danger that - as is so often the case with ingenious devices - lurks to ensnare the unwary.

I can confirm the narrowness of the leg. Two pair of PC moleskins arrived Monday; wore each of them yesterday and today. The waist and seat are generous, but the legs and crotch are so constricted through the thighs that I feel literally hobbled when walking or (especially) climbing stairs. I'll make do rather than returning them (they look fine, and I stop noticing the fit issues once my day begins), but I'll be reluctant to order them again. In all fairness to PC, I have larger-than-average thighs--but I am svelter than several of their catalog models (namely their Ian McShane lookalike), who always struck me as realistic examples of PC's likely customers.

I have two pair that are supposed to arrive 'by the end of the day'. However, it's snowing outside and up the street five cars are in the ditch. The local school bus refuses to try the hill so the kiddies are walking home . . . except for the ones who got home earlier and are sledding in the street!

Is there any inlay of extra cloth on the inseam? If so this could easily be let out and your pants would be so much more comfortable.

Enjoy the snow and the associated seasonal sideshow. Your delivery (trousers) may have been delayed, but it is clear from your post that you occupy the 'high ground, granting you tactical advantage and reflective of your long military experience and that the "the force" continues to be with you Master Oldsarge! "Live long and prosper."

Egad, forgive me for the above...I may be mixing paraphrased lines from competing 'galactic extravaganzas! The younglings are badgering me to haul them off to the movies to see "Rogue One," the latest Star Wars offering.
