Well I was having a discussion yesterday about men's capris so... Im 5'5 and I have a friend who's 6'3 and about 3 years ago I had a 34 inch waist. He still has a 34 inch waist so I told him, jokingly, I'd give he some old suit pants and he could wear them around as capris since they would be 8 inches to short. He liked the idea. Now my friends straight but he's a tad nutty I guess.

An associated heard our conversation and came over an put in his 2 cents. He's a college senior from Alabama and he said where he's from men wearing capris is normal and he likes wearing them. I shuddered, A) because men wearing capris is just creepy and B) because he's a very fat dude.

After reading this post and the discussion yesterday I am horrified to learn that men actually do wear capris, well at least south of the mason dixon line.

Breeks for effeminate geeks.

Sorry, but those are just off the wall. Let the women have their capris; they have nice legs. If a man is selling his legs, he's selling to the same team.

Capri pants for men. You mean those urban shorts that come to mid calf?

I was in Greece last July (2007) and it was hot between 100 and 115 degrees F everyday. Typical Greek summer. A majority of the local men working in bars and restaurants and shops wore Capri pants, their ages were from 20s to 50s. Surprised the heck out of me.

I remember then being somewhat popular with pre-teen boys in the late 50's or very early 60's, but not men. With regard to the earlier post, I live below the Mason-Dixon line and have never seen a man wear those things. They look bad enough on women as far as I'm concerned.

If I remember correctly it seems to me that boys were wearing them with collarless pullover shirts with three quarter length sleeves. They may have been called boat neck shirts or something like that.

Yes, my mistake to lump all Southerners together as capris wearers. It would be more fair to say in parts of Alabama or the south the capris is sometimes common, at least according to my rotund associate from Alabama.

I guess I can't dispute your friend if he is actually from Alabama; however, as a life long Southerner I can't imagine a man wearing them anywhere in Alabama and not being forced to fight to preserve whatever dignity he has left. :icon_smile_big:

Sheesh (emphasis on the 'she').
Looks like something off of a Prada magazine ad to me.

waitasec...P...R...A...D...A!

Five letters!!!

Those clam diggers wouldn't go over well for the men in these parts....now cargo capris, that might work.

Arggghhh!

Damn you Badrabbit! Have to wash my eyes out now!!!

Arghhhhhhh!!!

On a saner note: Capri pants on women with great legs... Keep it coming!

On men: Arghhhhhhhhhhhhh!!! (Sorry):icon_smile_big:

While in the mall today I saw something I hoped never to see. Several of the urbanwear companies are marketing capri pants to men. Not only that but they didn't even have the sense to change the name to something more manly. What's worse is I asked one of the sales associates if they were actually selling any of them. She said that they were practically flying off the racks. Marc Jacobs also seems to be suggesting that the look is good for men. I feel like kicking him in the head. Where's Chuck Norris when you need him?

Perhaps I should adapt my Anthony Burgess quote to say that:

"Idiots of both genders thrive on novelty and are easy meat for the commerce of fashion, intelligent men of good taste prefer normal trousers and torn jackets."

Women thrive on novelty and are easy meat for the commerce of fashion. Men prefer old pipes and torn jackets.

most people I know think of capris as long shorts, not as short pants.europe is full of men wearing capris - the savile row customer minority excepted.part of the current hipster fashion is messenger bikes, where wearing capris (or knickers) make sense.disclaimer: I wear my climbing knickers sometimes when I bike in town.

What's worse is I asked one of the sales associates if they were actually selling any of them. She said that they were practically flying off the racks.
I don't know if that's an indication of how well they are selling. I think all sales associates say that. If you would have tried them on you probably would have been told how good you look in them. And that you should buy a matching tank-top.

Every 5-10 years some designer puts a skirt (no, not a kilt, an actual skirt) on a male model for a runway show. Never seems to work. I think this is a sneaky attempt to capture a beachhead: buy our Capri pants now, and next year maybe you'll be ready for our skirt.

I'm from Alabama and have lived here most of my life. If a grown man wore capris in Alabama they would find his bloody corpse in a ditch somewhere. Your friend is either insane or just making things up for conversation.

Up here in New England I've never seen a grown man wearing capris and like both of you I could see said capris wearer getting heckled or worse. But never having visited the south except parts of Florida settled by northerners I took it at face value. Well he always seemed a little wacky to me (I actually cant stand him), but he's definitely not the type to make things up. Perhaps its just his town that wears capris. What makes it even worse is that he's 6'3 and around 350 or 400 lbs and none of its muscle. No man should wear capris but it only makes it more horrible if your overweight.

I saw many men wearing capris and what I'd call odd tops as well when I was in Europe in the summer of 06. It occurred to me that a motivated Muslim would find such attire very promising for an Islamic Europe in the near future.
