Mani made in Italy?

I recently purchased a lovely light gray nailhead Mani by Armani suit on ebay for a pittance. I understand this is a discontinued line by Armani that was rather on the low end of the line. I also understood that they were made in the USA and sold solely in country. However, the one I purchased is labeled as made in Italy. It is also at least half-canvassed. Could this be a fake? Is it an older suit? It also has a Saks Fifth-Avenue label, and I doubt someone would go to the trouble of faking that. I post pictures when it returns from the tailor.

I'm no expert, but I wouldn't necessarily assume that. Rather, I'd guess the brand owner contracted with a clothing producer to make the garments to certain specifications. Over time, the garments may have been made in different factories, some in Italy, some not.

I know that Armani used Gruppo GFT to make a lot of their clothing. Gruppo GFT has 10,000 employees and 18 manufacturing plants around the globe.

Might one surmise, then, that the made it Italy (even though low-end) is slightly nicer than suits produced at other localities?
Fiddlermatt,
"Made in Italy" may mean different things depending on the state of the law at the time the thing was made. It may mean made in Italy. It may mean some finishing work was done on the item. These things change. Often, items are sourced from a variety of places and labeled as seems allowable and preferable at the moment. Better to judge each thing on its own merits as it is and not rely upon the impressions created by the expertise of marketeers and implications of 'worth' and 'quality' that may have been carefully manipulated to produce the desired result: quarterly sales, prestige, etc.
If you are comfortable and confident, it is only important that the fit, shape, fabric, and style of the item fill a useful role in your journey through life's vicissitudes and trials.
As a completely irrelevant side note, the items one has labeled Mani have all been very good quality and sometimes better than more recent higher line items of greater report. There are times when values are distorted, but quality lasts.
Good fortune to you,
rudy

I owned at least 5 Mani suits made in the early 90s. I am certain they were all labeled made in italy. Nice garments that wore very well. Two were bought at Saks, one at Neiman Marcus, and another 2 at Macys several years later, I had a hard time tossing many of them because the fabrics were excellent and the fit very nice. Enjoy your new suit.
