To have a shoe fetish you probably need a lot of money.
Nah, you just need to be unbalanced.

There was a case in 2007 in Richmond, B.C. where this guy would only steal the left Nike shoe worn by young women. He had a lower than average mental capacity. Apparently, it had been happening for years, but was never reported because his Dad would pay off the victims to keep quiet.

...and have a dad...with a lot of money.

I know I overbought and could have done with 4 pairs of dress shoes, but do you think 8 pairs of dress shoes and 3 pairs of casual shoes is enough shoes to say I have a fetish? That number excludes specialty footwear like work boots or running shoes.

I don't think so. I think it's just the crowd I work with. They wear the same shoes every day at work.
Aww don't worry, I read a post from a guy on SF that said he had 48 pairs of AE shoes

 Oh God... I yelled at my son for stepping on my shoes the other day than spent a good hour polishing it. Does any one know where I can find a SLA (Shoe Lovers Anonymous)?
Me too... (((
Strange thing - than the shoes stand dirty or wet after walking, he avoid them by couple of yards, but if I glazed them properly, some magic power magnetically attract him to step on them!!! This is true - well polished shoes attract people. )))

^^ROFALOL! Several years back one of our grandsons (3yrs old, I think), was pretending to be the family dog and growling, bit the toe of the western boots I was wearing at the time. A tiny hole remains in the toe of the boot as evidence of this past travesty. Thank gawd he didn't bite down on the toe of my Gator hide boots. I might have been inclined to put the little guy back in his cage if he had done that! ;)

^^LOL.
Only the Pope should be allowed to wear red shoes. As for Dorothy, she should have stayed in Oz, living in sin with seven munchkins! Those ruby slippers were nothing but trouble. ;)

Let the anthropologists and religious studies professors weigh in on whether coveting or admiring certain objects counts as a "fetish."

There are more practical ways of answering the question.

An appetite for shoes (speaking as that stereotypical middle-aged man with some responsibilities and concomitant vanities and excesses) you will find is much cheaper than:

1. golf
2. a mistress
3. cars
4. gambling
5. two mistresses

So I don't see the problem.
