This is just too short, looks awful to me but I bet it looks good to some very young men. I believe it you wear it unbuttoned it would look better. I think the jeans/jacket look is confusing, why bother. Now if you want to wear a tweed jacket, an old beat up tweed jacket with jeans, now that might work. Jeans are just not dressy, a jacket dresses things up for me. If I need to stay warm I will wear a sweater or a jacket. I think this whole jeans and jacket look is fine for guys at college, but on the streets of NY

. As much as i don't like the look I think it is more of a reaction to wearing crumby jeans wth a jacket, or a too dressy jacket with jeans. Maybe one like this that does not try to fit like a 'real' sport coat is just the ticket for jeans.
I was just looking at the satorialists site and there is a person, not sure if it was a man or woman, but this person had on jeans and a cord sport coat..so I will add a well used cord jacket to the tweed above I think can work with jeans, but the jeans should fit and look good..if the jeans are too short, too tight, etc. it will just be a silly look.

I have noticed that some trendier sportcoats are noticably shorter. The first one I could think of was J.Crew's chino blazer:
What do you think?
Fits like a woman's length.
