How do the widths of Edward Green shoes compare to one another? Given the same size and last, would a D width be much narrower than an E? Also, how do UK widths compare to American widths?

Well a D would be narrower than an E - I don't know how to quantify how much narrower. Not all UK widths compare directly even as between brands - and the same is true for the Americans, so I really have no idea how to go about comparing them directly.

When it comes to sizing / fit advice, you'll get more informative answers with more specific questions. Is there a particular EG shoe that you are interested in? Is there a similar design in another brand that fits you comfortably? That can provide some useful comparative commentary.

I have a pair of EG in UK size 9.5E in the 82 last that fits near perfectly. Since I'm now hooked on EGs, I would like to get another pair. The pair I'm looking at is available in size UK 9.5D in the 82 last. I'm wondering if it might be too narrow. I don't want to get a pair that feels like its bending my foot in half.

I don't think the difference would be so severe as going from perfect to horribly painful, but why mess with success? If the new shoe is a derby versus a balmoral, that might mitigate the reduction in width somewhat as the closure is more forgiving.

So which EG shoes do you have, and why have we not yet seen pics? :mad2: :wink2: And which ones are you considering?

I was watching this pair of EG Midfords on eBay that sold at a good price that were 9.5D. I didn't bid on them because of the width issue.
I have a pair of black Chelseas that I absolutely love. I want a pair of brown balmorals now, since I'm hooked on EG. I'm thinking I'll get the Berkeleys in brown from Edwards -- the same place I got the Chelseas.
I haven't taken pics because I'm lazy and don't have a smart phone. :wink2:

^^^ Got it. I've been tempted in the past to compromise on fit for the sake of a good deal. My advice: don't.

By the way - a heck of a deal on select EG shoes are being offered by a forum sponsor on the other forum right now. They have the Clifton in both black and dark oak in 9.5E as well as a killer Gordon spectator. Yes, I am an enabler.
