Has anyone bought any Charles Tyrwhitt Seven Fold Ties? How do they stack up against a Ralph Lauren Purple Label or a Brooks Brother Luxury tie? Those two being the only two brands of Seven Fold Ties that I own.

It's difficult to compare quality of seven-fold ties as their construction is rather fundamental; they're probably all made essentially the same way and there aren't many components (internal canvas, slipstitching, etc) to compare. However, I guess you could compare the quality of the silk used to make it, but I don't own any RLPL or BB seven-folds. The CT ones are great as far as I know; I've seen them in the flagship store in NYC although I'd never pay $115 for one. I don't think I'd pay $115 for any tie.

If CT seven-fold ties are at $115 ....

that's fairly cheap for a seven-fold. Currently they are running $265.00 for a Robert Talbott. I have one 7-fold tie from CT, and I was not impressed with it. I don't know if it is the quality of the silk or some other factor, but I have never \been satisfied with it. I have over 150 ties and this is the only one I never wear, although many other CT ties are in my rotation. But BE CAREFUL! CT may now be making ties in China. Both of the vendors you have listed (BB & Ralph Lauren) make higher quality merchandise than CT.

Amen to that.

If I ever wore a tie for which I actually forked over that kind of dough, I'm sure I'd immediately get bear grease, printer's ink, bat's blood, or some other kind of unsavory and hard-to-remove substance on it. Or it would get caught in the workings of a player piano or the office Xerox machine and have to be cut off in order to save me from certain asphyxiation.

That said, I do own quite a few ties that were marked for retail at $115 or above, but of course I didn't pay anything near that. It's pretty easy to find nice ties at significant discounts.

While I can't help you with a direct comparison, I own one CT seven fold tie and I would say that, while not as solidly constructed as my Carlo Franco seven folds, it feels sturdier and thicker than my RT seven fold and it was definitely a far better value than the the RT seven fold.

Hello,

Having seen several CT seven folds in person I think they are quite nice ties. However I would also recommend that you have a look at Roderick Charles, particularly if you are after printed rather than woven seven folds in the Hermes etc tradition. The ties are very nice indeed and are currently only £29.50 each:

There is a far greater selection in-store for those who can make it to one of the London RC shops. The woven ties, though not seven folds, are some of my favourites in the whole of my collection. RC use various different makers but mainly Seaward and Stearn, Holliday and Brown and Cravats of London in my experience.

Hope this helps,
Chris.

The RLPL is going to be typically have a better construction than the Charles Tyrwhitt the BB luxury tie probably will but I cannot say for sure.

The quality of the silks could very well be the same.

Keep in mind that what is advertised as a 7-fold can often be a lined 6-fold.

Robert Talbott makes a true unlined 7-fold as a point of reference and the construction is good.

The quality of a 6 or 7-fold's construction can vary widely....
