Casual twill shirt

I am looking for a 100% cotton (not "wrinkle free", not "no-iron") long sleeve, buttoned up bengal stripe casual twill shirt in a tall size. I have had no luck. In fact, I've seen very few striped twill shirts available anywhere, particularly in tall sizes. I've only recently been buying tall shirts since they stay tucked in much better. I'm 6' 1", but in the last few years my, um, belly has gotten larger and some of my shirts tend to become untucked.

Believe it or not, I have been on a quest for this type of shirt for almost 10 years. I kid you not. (Ok, it's been several years since I've looked really hard. But the last few days have turned up nothing.)

I did have a shirt just like that, which was bought over 30 years ago from Lands' End. About 10 years ago, I was looking for it, and it was gone. I believe my wife threw it out or gave it away. (She denies this.) I do have another twill shirt that was bought at the same time. Solid color, oh so soft after 30+ years. Nicely faded through use. Just a hint of fraying at the collars and cuffs which give it character. I believe it is the same exact "model" from Lands' End as the aforementioned shirt.

I've looked on eBay every now and then for pre-owned Land' End but have never found something even similar.

Any potential sources for new shirts like this? Ceiling would be about $100, but would go higher for quality and if it really looked great. Mine had dark blue, white, and dark green stripes. I managed to get a broadcloth shirt a few years ago from J.C. Penney (Stafford Prep) with those colored stripes, though they were a bit thinner -- typical width seen on most striped shirts. Any shade of blue and white stripes would suffice for my quest -- or any other colors that look nice.

Thanks

Because your preferences are specific, and you’ve been unsuccessfully looking for a shirt that aligns with your preferences for 10 years, I think it’s time to stop looking for ready-made shirts and, instead, to commission a made-to-order item. Not necessarily bespoke—which would be wildly expensive—but made-to-order/made-to-measure.

I've actually looked at that option -- online only, of course. Several years ago, I looked at places that just sold fabric, since the options were greater. I couldn't find exactly what I was looking for, however.

I realize that finding exactly what I want is probably one-in-a-million. I'd be happy with a decent striped (any width) twill in 100% cotton, with no "additives" to make it wrinkle-proof. In my mind, once it is treated, technically it is no longer 100% cotton. I have a few "no-irons", and to me it is not as comfortable as un-treated cotton.

I recently looked at Charles Tyrwhitt and ProperCloth, and while you could "design" your own shirt, they didn't have a specification for shirt-tail length. I've read that Charles Tyrwhitt quality has gone downhill recently -- although I've never bought from them. Also, I"m looking for casual-weight, which will be a bit heavier than the dress-shirt options they offer.

I was wearing my other favorite Lands' End twill yesterday, and though it is a non-tall large, it fits me perfectly after 30+ years of washing. So while "tall" is preferable for a new shirt, it is not necesarily a requirement if the shirt will have a minimum tail length of 31" after several washings. (Measured from the bottom of the collar at the back to the tail.) It also does not require ironing and there is nary a wrinkle when removed from the drier. (Another reason I like twill in a sleightly heavier weight.)

Thanks

Thanks. I found Ratio Clothing last night, coincindentally. I need to look into it a bit more. It did ask for your height, I noticed. I saw twills with checks, but not with stripes.

Proper cloth has 3 twill bengal striped fabrics -- 2 are "fine" bengal. I'm not sure how that's different from a regular stripe. The colors are blue, and light blue. The true bengal is only in light blue. Plus, it's non-iron, with 5% Spandex. Also, the alternating stripes on their bengals is just white. They identify all these as buiness/business casual, not in their regular casual category.

Proper Cloth also has some nice checks and plaids in non-treated twill for around $100, and in medium or greater weight. That could be a fall-back option going forward. For that price, however, I would really want to get a bengal stripe in bolder (darker) colors, such as navy blue and green stripes, or navy and some other color other than white. This is a casual shirt I'm looking for, after all.

I will still keep an eye out on eBay and here to see if other options arise.

I do appreciate the help!

I found this shirt on ebay. Van Heusen, twill, but it's 65% poly, 35% cotton. No dice. Also, description says that the sleeves run on the shorter side. This is very similar to the Stafford Prep one I have in broadcloth.

A reverse image search turned up a new one (different brand) that, alas, was poplin, and over $500!

I am looking for those stripe colors, but wide/Bengal width.

I'm pretty sure my old one had regular straight collars rather than button down (as is the solid color one I still have). Any collar style would be fine.

Thanks again.

Well, I haven't found anything close, but I did pick up some NOS vintage Docker twills with bold stripes. The labels actually id the quarter and year, which is cool. They are from the 90s. I had never bought a Dockers shirt before -- they are nicer than I expected. (So far; all have not arrived yet.) Much nicer than what they offer today in shirts, and nicer than most of what I see on department store hangers and shelves from other brands.

I will still keep an eye out on eBay for what I'm looking for, but won't hold my breath. I may order an OCBD from Ratio, and if that tuns out OK, I might consider getting a twill. They have some nice plaid patterns, but they are much more expensive than their OCBDs.

Thanks. I think the only option would be to find someone selling fabric in a pattern I really like, and then bring it locally somewhere to have a shirt made.

What I had really liked about the shirt was the feeling of the twill material (which I still have in the other LE shirt that I had bought with it), and the bold stripes in navy blue, dark green and white.

I guess I was lucky enough to get a broadcloth shirt from Stafford with those colored stripes, albeit thinner, and to recently be able to pick up some nice twills with bold stripes from Dockers (NOS), as I mentioned above.

I've checked out those brands and companies that you mentioned above, and I didn't seen any wide stripes in bold colors at all, regardless of fabirc type.
