Breast pocket wallet

I've realised that I hate the feeling of a wallet, even a small one, rattling around in my trouser pocket. Equally, it bothered me to have a small wallet rattling around the bottom of the breast pocket of my suit -- even if it was fairly thin (and, with a few bills folded double or triple, it usually wasn't thin), it inevitably sat the wrong way and left an uncomfortable bulge. So I decided to buy a proper breast pocket wallet, and settled on a nice red/brown leather one from Aspinal, a company that had been mentioned favourably on here and another forum.

It's been great, up to a point. It's slim, because bills don't need to be folded and cards don't double up as they do in a normal bi-fold, and because it fills the whole pocket it seems to move naturally with the suit. My only problem -- and I'm quickly realising it may be a fatal problem -- is that at ~7" the wallet's too long, and sticks a good inch out of the pocket. As a result, when I lean forward it has a tendency to slip out. For something containing valuables, that's clearly no good at all.

I see that Hackett has a breast pocket with slightly different dimensions -- a bit shorter and wider, basically filling the pocket, but I'm not very keen on the leather and haven't seen a similar design from anyone else. Can anyone suggest an alternative? Has anyone found a way to cope with a 7" wallet, short of having a tailor deepen the pocket to accomodate it?

A possible solution -- don't bend forward, at least while you're dressed.

Seriously though, I've stopped using a breast pocket wallet as I like to be able to button the button on the breast pocket with my wallet inside. And, for coats that don't have the button and flap, I've had one sewn in. Another alternative is to have a tailor sew in a new, deeper pocket.

I carry a "long wallet" 6 days out of 7 and have no real problem with it sliding out. Maybe if I'm crawling through a fence (which is not infrequently, really), but during day-to-day activities it really isn't that big a problem. I do think I sub-consciously place my right hand over it from the outside when I run, though.
Still, it would be a simple matter for a seamstress to put a "strap" and button on your inside pocket to keep things where they belong.

Unfortunately, long jacket pocket wallets, cannot be shorter as they need to hold all banknote sizes flat. The only solution is to indeed to get deeper pockets and/or add a pocket flap and button.

Shirt pocket wallets are very popular with formal wear, when you do not require all your usual clutter. They also work well during summer, when a jacket is not always worn.

New ideas will shortly be on their way...

I stick with a card case for my ID, bank card, Amex, and health insurance card, that goes in the jacket pocket, and I keep my bills on a clip, or just folded in my front pants pocket. It's easy and liberating to leave all the other things behind for the day (believe me you don't really need to have your BB Corporate Discount card on you at all times...though I like to leave mine in my bag or briefcase, just in case )

I purchased a Coach bifold wallet a few months ago, figuring that it would solve my consistent problem with bulk. However, I soon realized that just getting a new wallet was no solution to my problem - in reality, I just had too much stuff crammed into my wallet.

After browsing AAAC and StyleForum, I discovered that a separate money clip might solve my problem. I purchased a nice leather clip and moved all my cash from my wallet to the clip; moreover, I took out a lot of items that I didn't need from my wallet - multiple credit cards, business cards, social security card, etc. (I now just carry in my wallet my health insurance cards, a debit card, a personal credit card, my corporate card, my fitness club pass, my public transit card and my spare car key).

When I wear a suit or sport coat, I keep my newly slimmed-down wallet in my right breast pocket and the money clip in the left breast pocket; otherwise, I simply put my wallet in the back pocket of my pants and the money clip in a front pants pocket.

I've carried a breast pocket wallet for all of my working life and won't carry another type.
If I don't have a jacket on, the breast pocket wallet stays at home, and I use my money clip.
I'm a big fan of the Bosca coat pocket wallet. It's well made, and the functionality is hard to beat.
The one I carry now is almost 20 years old and needs to be replaced so my fiancée ordered me a Kent breast pocket wallet from the Wanders Travel Company. I had never heard of the company until she showed me the two purses she had recently ordered. I can't wait for it to show up.

If your looking for a smaller type of breast pocket wallet, may I suggest the Bosca coat pocket wallet.
I've been carrying one for over 20 years and it's finally shown signs of needing to be replaced.
I highly recommend it!

For the forty plus years of my career as a financial institution lawyer I wore a Mark Cross wallet, sienna on the inside and black on the outside. When I retired I went to a Rogue Industries credit card wallet, kept in my left front pocket, pen knife in the other. There is no in between as far as I am concerned. Doctors who attend to spines would likely concur.

I used a similar Mark Cross wallet for years. Still have it but it's of little use to me now. It's just too damn elegant to get rid of so I keep wondering how to repurpose it. It could be a checkbook wallet and I used it as such for a time but have another one that's built for that purpose. I also used and still have one of their legal pad leather porfolios. I still use it quite often. Mark Cross seems to have mostly disappeared as a brand but they were beautifully made leather products.

I've used a Bosca Credit Card/ID wallet for a good 20 years now and finally bought a new version in Dolce leather. Not as good as the earlier version I have which was marked USA made. This one is from Southeast Asia. I favor front pocket wallets now but understand those who want to find a different spot to carry one. The main reason I bought this model was the built in RFID lining. In my old version, I had to add an RFID card (I try to carry the least I can in a wallet).

I have carried a Aspinal breast coat wallet for years. I don't find it slipping out of my suit coat pockets even while bending over. However, I often wear vests so that might provide a bit more friction.
I second the idea of having a seamstress add a elastic band, sounds like a simple fix.
