Hi everyone,

I recently purchased a tuxedo with grosgrain lapels for my wedding. Is it necessary to wear a grosgrain bow tie? Or does this one work just as well:

If you do think a grosgrain bow tie is necessary, do you have any suggestions of where I can get a good quality grosgrain bow tie that isn't too expensive (somewhere around Beau Ties prices works for me)?

I am by no means an expert but I was always taught to try and match your tie material to your lapel facing material. As for something close to your price range I would look at the Gentleman's Gazette store. I believe Sven's brand is called Fort Belvedere and I know they have a nice crossgrain option somewhat close to your price. Here is the link, https://www.gentlemansgazette.com/s.../bow-ties/single-end-bow-tie-black-silk-moire-butterfly-self-tie-fort-belvedere. I have one of his bow ties in satin as well as some evening satin shoe laces and have been very happy with them.

I personally have silk barathea tie/cummerbund to go with grosgrain facings. I believe there is precedence for the rule to actually be satin with satin, matte with matte, as opposed to the exact same material with the exact same material.

A satin lapel calls for a satin bow tie while grosgrain facings require a ribbed or textured finish such as barathea or faille.
