Beach Footwear

I have been a forum reader for years, but I'm posting for the first time. Here's my question: What, in your opinion, is the best beach footwear? Sandals, flip flops, boat shoes, espadrilles/canvas sneakers, crocs? I just purchased these espadrilles/canvas sneakers with the intention of wearing them to the beach this summer. What are your thoughts?

There are few things in this world I hate more than sand in my shoes--tight pants, the current state of "hip-hop," basketball--so it's sandals for me, specifically the ubiquitous Rainbow Sandal. The beach is about as casual as it gets, with people running around shirtless and what not.

An exception might be going to the beach but never actually going onto the beach proper, such as going out to eat at a beach club, in which case I would wear whatever shoe the situation required. But if that's the case, you're not really going to the beach at all.

Deck shoes

I don't mind a little sand in my shoes. Rubs off some of the callus:icon_smile_wink:

Those pictured RL espadrilles look way too "country club" for a day at the beach, in my opinion. Here in SoCal, tar is a problem on all our beaches (it bubbles up spontaneously from natural undersea vents), so I would want to wear something I could get it off of, and that canvas isn't going to be it.

Won't wear flip-flops, even to the gym. I hate that "thong" between the toes and constantly having to clench my toes to keep the bloody things from falling off.

Well, I'd hope you wouldn't wear them to the gym. It's more dangerous for ones toes--actually, they'll probably just hurt more if one drops a weight on them--and the idea that one can properly stabilize ones body to lift while wearing sandals is laughable. It's much better to go barefoot.
