A pair of khaki pants that actually fit?

I have been on the hunt for a proper pair of khaki pants for a while.

I cannot find anything, I even researched old topics in this forum but no luck. My problem is that I am relatively big around the mid-section - (I am 6'1 and ~230 lbs) my waist is a size 36 in almost everything. (Apparently, everything besides khakis..)

I tried everything - I was in the mall all day yesterday, to the point where even my girlfriend was getting sick of shopping.

The problem I constantly encounter, is that if something fits around my waist, it does not fit around my thighs (I mean it does, but its so tight that I cant even put my cellphone in my pocket), and vice versa.

I went into BB - their size 36 was not even enough to go around my legs, then the sales associate brought over a size 44 (....) and that fit around the waist, but the back looked as though I was wearing adult diapers and just defecated. (I tried the Hudson and Elliot fits, I was told those were the "loosest fits")

JCrew, the size 36 fit fine, but far too tight on the thighs. (Classic fit.)
Banana Republic, they only had a size 38 - did not go around my waist.
I tried RL, Vineyard Vines, Tommy Bahama, everything in Macy's, Nordstrom, etc.

So, can anyone recommend somewhere/something I have not yet tried, or a pair that a tailor can easily work with and alter? I really want something that only needs to be hemmed, and does not need to be fussed with too much.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you!

I would recommend Bill's Khakis. They have 3 different cuts, M1 (loosest), M2 (average), and M3 (tightest). Most shops that sell them will tailor them also, the length comes unfinished, so tailoring is required. Bonus: they are made in the USA and are good quality.

If you can't find them then go to any decent men's shop that sells tailored clothing (suits, sport coats) and try out the house brand of khakis, at the very least they should offer tailoring at a place like that.

Personally, I can't buy pants at the mall because I need to have them tailored, I go to my local mens shop and buy them there and have them tailored in house. It's the perfect solution.

Thank you everyone! Then, it will be Bill's!

So if I order a pair of Bill's online, should I order a size 36 (my actual size) or a size 38 or other? Or should I still go into Bloomingdales (my local retailer for Bill's) and try them there?

Thanks again!

Forget the size of your other pants. Measure your waist and go up 1 size in the original or vintage twills. Keep with the measurement for driving twills.

Another great thing about Bills is that they come in odd sizes. So I would try a 37 original or vtg twill.

I have the same problem after several years of being in professional hockey, which made my thighs too big and out of proportion to the rest of my body.

I have founds Lands' End comfort waist chinos to fit well enough. They're also cheap enough to have tapered. I was also surprised at how well the Dockers D1 chinos fit me.

I'm on the shorter side, and also have very muscular quads. I weigh around 175. Believe it or not LL Bean Classic Fit works very well for me. They are reasonably trim but not too tight around the thighs for me.

For the OP, I would suggest trying the LLB "Natural" fit as they are supposed to be LLB's "roomier" but. Might work as a cheaper alternative to Bills if you need some pants to fill out your closet.

Re: Dockers D1, they aren't bad at all. They're a tad roomier than I usually prefer but are surely worth trying. Because of this, they are strictly weekend pants for me. I'm actually wearing a pair right now.

Really? D-1 is the slimmest fit.
