Short Back and Sides

The short back & sides is a classic. And has been making somewhat of a come back in the last few years partially due to the extreme versions worn by the goth and synth crowd. When I got one last year, the young female hairdresser didn't know what I meant. So I said, "you've seen photos of German soliders in the 1940s, shaved back and sides, left long on top?" And then she understood!

How extreme you have it is very much a matter of personal preference.
I'm one for the short back and sides.
I thought I had a barber for many years that was really good and gave me what I thought was reasonably extreme cut with a No1 up the back and sides.
He retired and through this forum I found another central London barber who only needs telling 'short back and sides' once. And is a complete master at it.
First time in it took just a matter of seconds before I was clippered up to above the ears with no guard leaving the shortect of stubble. The top was sissor cut to about an inch maximum. The top then tapered in with clippers over the comb. The neck and over the ears finished with a cut throat razor.
Very clean feeling and tidy of course.

I went from a 1 to a guard...basically damn-near shaved! It may seem like a terrible waste of resources, but I still go to barber. I could cut the front and sides myself, but Mrs. TMMKC flatly refuses to cut the back of head.

I enjoy the whole experience of going to the barber shop. So, me for, the $13 I spend is well worth it. They even offer single-blade hot shaves and "handshake" manicures.

Best haircut ever??

Johnny U.
My high school team was called the Colts and for a very brief period I wore number 19. I can't emphasize the word "brief" enough. I probably fumbled more times in one practice than Johnny U. did in his entire career. At 125 pounds the coaches never saw fit to let the Friday Night Lights shine on me; but somewhere I still have that number 19 practice jersey packed away. To be honest, I was a Y.A. Tittle fan.

$13??? That is peanuts, that is super-cheap. The last time I had a haircut that cheap was early 90s in London. I can't afford to go to a hairdresser in Sweden, cartel pricing, so every hairdresser takes between £30 and £40 for a simple male haircut.

About 4-5 months ago, I switched to a traditional barbershop in the very small town in which I live. He shaves around the neck and ears, if you request, and brushes on a little Clubman talc to finish the job off properly.

Price: $12.00. Of course, that does not include the $3.00 tip.
