I'm looking for a teal or pine color solid tie. I've seen one on a commercial or TV show paired with a taupe (learning more toward light brown) suit and a pastel blue shirt. I thought it looked great!

I think either would look great. You'll have a little more contrast with pine, but as I understand those colors, both contain some blue, and should harmonize nicely. Paul Stuart usually has a rainbow of solid ties in limited quantities, a salesman there would tell you by phone, but they're expensive. Good luck!

Ralph Lauren Purple Label has some beautiful solid colored ties, including a bold dark green. At $175, they're rather pricey, but beautifully made.

Ben Silver had teal last time I looked for about $125, and, speaking as one who has both, you'll get more wear out of that color than you will pine.

You also can wear the teal with orange or purple if you're daring.

I too find myself more inclined towards the Teal (a pine tie...I'm just not so sure!). Recently saw a really nice Teal tie at BB but, it did have red pin dots incorporated in the pattern...very pleasing to my eye.
