I just bought an unstructured Zegna sports jacket, and I like every thing about it except that it has a ribbed/elastic, knit internal collar (yoke?) that extends above the main collar by about half an inch. In other words, when I'm wearing the jacket, you can see this knit collar as well as my shirt collar above the neckline. Odd. I'm pretty sure my tailor can remove it, but before I ask him to do it, does anyone know what the internal collar is for? Are you aware of any reason why I shouldn't remove it (assuming my tailor thinks he can do so without damaging the jacket)?

Here is a link to a photo. As you can (hopefully) see, the knit collar is sewn along the top of the jacket, and extends above the jacket's neckline in the back. It's actually a very comfortable feature; it just looks odd sticking up out of the jacket.
