Its been said here many times but theres no way you are too young to wear a jacket all of the time. I'm suprised you don't tuck your shirt in given your propensity for clothing. Like the esteemed Duck I am under 30 (just turned 26) and I wear a jacket almost everyday - more often than not I wear a suit and tie. Jump on in...
Youth and Trad
I'm visiting my parents over the Winter holiday and, while having a discussion with my mother about my recent romantic prospects, got on the subject of my sartorial sensibilities.
I generally wear plain front, cuffed khakis, an OCBD (in white, pink, light blue, or french blue), a nice pair of shoes (must wear socks with loafers--sensory issues), and a belt. I often don't bother to tuck the OCBD in, and I almost never wear a jacket.
I indicated that I probably ought to wear a jacket on a daily basis, or at least more often, and she insisted that I'd look like an "old man" if I began doing so.
I'm a few years under 30; I'm not exactly in my teens and while I may indeed still be on the young side, I don't think adding a jacket to my ensemble would make me seem too old.
Then again, this is the same woman who objects to my fondness for argyle socks.

I'm 18, and I wear tweed and all different types of jackets...and I don't get comments that I look old. Adding a blazer just makes you look nicer and more put together. Wear what you like, and this includes argyle socks. :icon_smile_big:
i bet theres something about you looking mature that might make your mom feel old, so if you dress like a kid then she doesnt have to acknowledge your pushing 30 - just a thought - wear what you like, i know lots of guys in their 20s that wear jackets
A lot depends on who you are spending time wirth and where you are spending time. You certainly won't fit in at a hip hop concert with the clothes you describe but there are plenty of places where people your age don't try to dress like gangsta boys.
Around these parts, many of the wealthier young men don't dress like every average guy. Wearing a blazer isn't a signal that one is trying to be old, 'hip', trendy or pretensious. It's a signal that one cares enough about their appearance that they'd rather wear a tweed sports coat than a fleece hoodie. Wearing a tie means you'd rather put on a special decoration than go out and get a gold chain. It's a difference in personal style, not ageism.

If I had only one message to impart, if you can look good at all times by wearing appropriate clothing, you will be able to get away with small touches that set you apart from the pack. Wearing a tweed or cordeuroy jacket is a good start, provided you also mix things up a bit. It's okay to wear a t-shirt, but not okay to wear nothing but t-shirts.

You mentioned you're a few years under 30. You might want to articulate the fact to your mom that by now you should be able to pick your clothes and your female companions but hey, it's your life.
I can't say I've had a problem doing either, Brooks. I started the thread to stimulate discussion of trad and younger men, not because I needed courage to do what I like.
