Are wool/mohair blend suits appropriate for more somber occasions (such as job interviews and the workplace)? When I buy my first bespoke suit, I’m looking at a 71% worsted wool/29% mohair blend solid suit fabric from Vitale Barberis Canonico.

The fabric is 320 grams and it’s described as an all weather fabric on their website.

The only thing is I don’t know if it’s the fabric that has the 20034 drapers code/824.601/5356 product code or the fabric that has the 20035 drapers code/824.601/3927 product code. Either the darker of these two fabrics is midnight blue and the lighter is navy or the darker fabric is navy and the lighter is French blue.

Either way, I’m going with navy solid if I go with one of these fabrics.

Mohair which is derived from the pelt of the Mo  has some properties that are both interesting and potentially useful, though perhaps situational. I've found it generally to be highly regarded by tailors.

Mohair is very strong and naturally wrinkle resistant fiber. It also tends to have a bit of sheen to varying degrees dependent upon how its produced and whether, and to what degree it is spun with other fibers. I've also always personally found it a bit itchy.

Because of its excellent shape retention and wrinkle resistance, it's long been considered a premium addition to tailored cloth for summer, though I personally don't find it as cool as tropical worsted for example. Since 320 grams is roughly 11 1/4oz, that is a mid weight cloth in modern terms. I think I'd find it questionable for summer, but good much of the rest of the year.

As to its place in a wardrobe, a lot of this would have to do with the particular cloth and how much sheen it has. A slight luster would not disqualify it for most workplaces, but if it was made to shine, it wouldn't suit the most conservative IMO. I'd need to see it in the flesh and handle it in the light. While some insist dark navy should be confined to evening, I think plain navy suitable for wear either for business or in the evening, and a good choice. Could be worn to a funeral if no better option, but either black or charcoal is a better choice.

Actually, 320 grams is roughly 10 3/4 ounces, since 300 grams is ten ounces and 315 grams is 10 1/2 ounces. 330 grams is 11 ounces and 345 grams is 11 1/2 ounces, which makes 340 grams roughly 11 1/4 ounces.

Mohair is a dressy and a bit sharp.

As for the interview and workplace, it depends upon the "vibe". If it's an insurance company or bank, then "no." However, if it's an executive position, then it's okay.

I'd probably say so. I don't own any mohair suits, so take my word with a grain of salt. I would love to own wool/mohair suits as they seem great for hot weather, resist creasing, and from what I've seen have a sheen that's very subtle and helps people stand out without being overbearing.
