Zero.

I have much better taste than she does. In fact, because of me, she often wears BB now, especially when she teaches. Left to her own devices, she'll wear stuff from Anne Taylor - which is fine as it goes - but is all rather trendy, muted, and geometric for my tastes.

I hate being told what to do, so I tend to go for my own choices in fashion as I do in other areas. That said, if I can please a woman by wearing a certain garment, and I do not find it objectionable to wear, then I am probably going to follow her suggestion.

My ex- had typical American female tastes - her idea of "well dressed" was grey SB suit, white shirt, dark red tie, plain black shoes. She liked almost none of my DB pinstriped suits, wingtips, coloured shirts, Lanvin ties. That's not why we divorced (though surely that would have been reasonable grounds ;) ) But - interestingly - her argument against what I wore was not that it was unconventional but that it was noticeable...

I remember some years ago I was dating a woman who bought me socks, light colored, tanish. I told my dear friend Allen about this and he busted up laughing and said the following, "does she really think she can dress you better than you already dress".

So may answer is this, I do ask at times if I am unsure about how something might go, but generally (99%) of the time I am very confident in my selections.

PS: I always seem to know which socks to wear with which pants and shoes.

I mostly make my own choices, but my lady helps me refine some things before I walk out the door. We all need a second-opinion sometimes.
Occasionally I try to wear something that's a little too much, and she lets me know.

She also keeps me from buying some things I don't need

I would imagine that on this forum it would be more common for the gentleman to be more capable and qualified for providing constructive advice on his ladies choice of clothing.

Not that he ever would though, of course.

Sometimes I ask her opinion when we are shopping together - she can handle it if I acknowledge her input and buy something anyway afterwards. :icon_smile_big:

Judging by the things she buys for herself nowadays the almost five years we have been together influenced her tastes in clothing.

If things work out, I think we find the person we need. I never needed a woman to dress me. However, my wife has found some semblance of style because of me. I was probably one of the few heterosexual males who was asked by female friends to go shopping with them (though never to Victoria secret unfortunately...), so even as a young man (16-24ish) women thought I had some style and good fashion sense. However, ever since I got married it seems I have been more free to let loose and be me when it comes to clothing. Much of that has to do with this forum, but in a year I have gone from owning maybe 2 banana republic suits, a couple suits from thrift stores and assorted no name blazers to well, a new man. This has to do with a) having a real job, b) being married and aka a real man c) this website d) ebay and e) ebay. Now I have 12 some odd suits and 4 blazers/sport coats all from an assortment of brioni, RLPL, Corneliani, Isaia, HF Bespoke, and Belvest. Fortunately my wife does not mind my transformation, and has always had the sense to ask my opinion on almost all her work attire before she makes a purchase. I do not think that this change come out of nowhere, since I did wear blazers in college and grad school, when no one else did and my parents are professionals who while they have never heard of brioni, still look very good in their clothes. I have not been able to get my wife into the same caliber of clothing that I wear, mainly because shopping on ebay for women is very difficult and we certainly do not have the money to buy retail (and my wife has the sense not to, one of the many reasons I married her. That and she is happy with only one purse and does not need 500 shoes).

I only listen to one woman and I call her mommy. She likes what I like but the ocassional trendy item. She reallly knows how to help me piece together a tie and shirt combination when I'm in a rush & need a quick opinion.

I've said so elsewhere on this forum but until recently I never actually purchased my clothes. I wore what my wife purchased for me, or clothing given to me at birthday's, etc... It was not really a concious decision to let others determine what I wore, it was just easier. I don't think it is uncommon that wives purchase their husbands clothing.

My wife and I have an arrangement. She reserves the right to buy me something I 'need', and I have the right to let articles of clothing drift to the back of the cedar closet and, ultimately, out the door. We've been married almost 30 years, in part because we pick our battles carefully.

I take her along for an opinion and then disregard it, no seriously as a designer I think she has a good eye. But then in the wash up the final issue is do I feel comfortable in it? Does it reflex who and what I am.

In someways its harder to find age appropriate attire without that voice of reason, but then she just doesn't understand my tie fetish.

My wife has no influence whatsoever on my choices. She was attracted to me for the way I dressed in my uniform. Translated into suits she doesn't like my choices of neckwear and shirts. She claims they're a match of pajamas and old men's underwear.

I always receive compliments on the way I dress.

She is well dressed in her own right however.

Being that one of the main reasons I dress well is for the opposite sex (the other main reason is for myself), I enjoy getting a 2nd (female) opinion when shopping.

Add the fact that I'm a social bird, and that means you'll often find me shopping with a woman, as I find it more enjoyable than just going by myself.

Now then, my typical routine is to pick stuff out, and simply ask "what do you think?" And just because they don't like it doesn't mean I won't buy it. Point is I'm not just following them around letting them pick stuff out for me.

Now then, I don't have "a woman" so that means there isn't anyone telling me what to wear in the morning.
