Hi, I live in the upper midwest where it gets very cold in the minter, sometimes 20-40 below zero. I'm wondering what kind of coat/jacket looks good for a businessperson in a business/casual environment. I'm thinking about getting a wool overcoat but am afraid it might a bit too dressy and overdoing it when I'm not wearing a suit or at least a tie. I've recently started work in a business-casual minded area where a button-down dress shirt and khakis are pretty much the norm unless you have an important meeting or are getting a visit by upper management.
Do you guys think a nice, warm leather jacket a bit more suitable in a business casual environment or even on the weekends when you wear weekend clothes. A wool overcoat usually means you have to wear a scarf with it too and I'm a bit afraid I might look a little fruity and give out the wrong message.
What do you guys wear in the cold and what have you noticed works and doesn't work for winterwear?
