I've often wondered about this too. I participate in several other forums devoted to interests other than clothing (astronomy, motorcylces, cars) in which people routinely post photographs related to the subject matter and this is the only forum of that group in which people routinely blot or crop out their heads. It really doesn't matter to me one way or the other, it just seems odd that it would be so prevalent in this particular forum.

Shy; do not want their photo live on the WWW; do not want someone they know that they post on here; maybe post during work hours; maybe they are someone in the public-eye (local, city state or country); etc.

There is one member I know who did not hide his face, but now does. There may be a certain reason for this.

I'd say it is a mix of wanting anonymity and fear of what might be said. I would wager that most members here retain a fair degree of what could be called vanity. Posting pictures of our clothing and receiving scathing reviews is one thing, but that can all be changed, tailored, and fixed. Posting a picture including one's face and hearing something untoward could be quite damaging.

That said, I've endured years of my family lovingly saying I have a face made for radio, so if I ever post a picture of myself I suppose I'll include my face in the shot.

I like to think of my warrants as absolutely "Outstanding". Thats why.

...But seriously, I don't want a single picture of my face on the web anywhere, the internet destroys privacy, it doesn't need any additional help from me.

Though I understand and respect the myriad reasons forumites may have for obscuring their faces, I do appreciate when someone displays theirs. Frankly, it helps personalize the often-lonely nature of trading electronic bits of style esoterica. Promise I'm not actually lonely, though. ;)

I know for me it is about anonymity. I am candid in my discussions, mainly other forums, but here also, and I don't want to have to worry about my political views finding their way back to those I work with, or my responses to some of the silly threads at other forums. Personal choice. I assume some of you guys are interested in seeing pics of my clothes and not of my face..

I'm going with the non-faced being horribly disfigured fugitive felons who are in the Witness Protection Program.
Sort of covers all the bases.

BTW - Are we sure this is what OP's talking about???

I understand the reasons, I just don't embrace them. I couldn't care less if someone I know recognizes me on this site. So I'm on a men's clothing/style/fashion site. It's not like I'm looking at child pornography or something. But I'm not trying to change anyone's mind. If you're more comfortable hiding your face it's no big deal. I just want to see your clothes. But I do have to say, there is a context thing going on. Seeing your face/age/etc. definitely contributes to the assessment of what you're putting together and the positive comments or constructive criticism that might ensue.

I am proud to care about the way I dress.I also work with a bunch of foul mouthed drunks.( I am a polite drunk) They sit around and burp and fart and scratch and make fun of everyone and everything. I wouldnt take a chance on them seeing my face on such a sophicated forum.Id never hear the end of it!

That's the way I feel and I hope I didn't imply differently. I just find it surprising that so many people do it in this forum. I go to a motorcycle forum and guys, or their wife/girlfriend, are proudly posing in front of the bike; or an astronomy forum and guys are proudly posing in front of their telescopes or home observatories; and so on.

Then I come here and it looks like some kind of witness protection program. I halfway expect to log on one day and see Andy's head cropped out in the header. :icon_smile_big:
