I just got some inexpensive (only $74) Sperry Topsider's from Nordstrom.

Just a fun, summer shoe to wear to the grocery store, etc. :icon_smile_big: But I've worn it several times now and the top (leather) is perfectly smooth - no creases, no wrinkles, no bumps! Why is that?

The style, the fit, ??

Couldnt agree more...I recently bought my first pair of top-siders and have been amazed by their comfort and durability. I have traditionally worn birks, but catfishing in birks can be a dangerous proposition. It only took one fishing trip and a few days of wearing them after that to break them in nicely.

I should also add that I have a very narrow foot (8.5AA) and the "8.5 Slim" AO fits quite well.

How many pairs of loafers do you own, Andy?

Srynerson:

 or :icon_smile_big: ? What a very personal question!!

I don't know and I don't have time to count!

Once some friends from out of town were going to visit and stay at our home. We were going to be out to a function when they were due to arrive so we just left the keys under the mat for them.

The guest room closet is mine and it's full, but when we have guests I make a little space!

We get home and our friends are there, but the first thing the lady guest says to me (not hello or how are you) is "You have 42 pairs of brown shoes!!!"

Maybe I should count because just a couple of weeks ago I saw a great pair of summer shoes on the website of one of the fine advertisers here. They really were a nice color and design. I ordered them, and then got to thinking they seemed strangely familiar.

I started looking through my spring/summer shoe wardrobe and there they were! So now (when they arrive) I'll have two pair. The nice thing about having a second home is the "old" pair gets to join the shoe wardrobe there!

I only asked because I can't remember the last time you posted about a shoe acquisition that wasn't a pair of loafers. :icon_smile_wink:

I'm still stuck on your proper grammar, "two pair". Lol.

I just purchased my first pair of Sperry's and so far am loving them. Solid bang for buck. I hear Walmart even has something similar for $12 ;-)

Andy: For many, many years I wore Sperrys' and thought I was happy (in terms of price, comfort, durability, etc!) and then I experienced Quoddy Trails. Indeed, a pair of Quoddy's will cost a bit more, perhaps as much as three times the price paid for a pair of Sperrys. However, the comfort allowed by the bio mechanical support provided by the shoes, the quality of the leather, and the durability of the shoes (Quoddy's are the only boat shoes I would ever consider having re crafted!) are such such that you, or perhaps I should just say I, will/would never spend money on another brand of boat shoes! At present I have five pair of Quoddy Trails, including three pair of boats and two pair of penny loafers, with a sixth pair (Maliseet Blucher's) in process! :)

PS: Be prepared to wait...as they do seem to march to their own drummer at the Quoddy Trail manufacturing plant. :(

Q-Why can't all shoes be like this?

A-Because we would all have premature flat-foot!!
Not true, most people's feet are perfectly fine without instep support, ankle support etc. Your feet are structured to be fine without shoes. If you're a runner there's some evidence that running bare foot is better for your joints, at least if you stay of concrete.

Personally, I like to wear when out and about :)

I have a pair of canoe mocs on order right now. I'm hoping they are fantastic and fit, but the 9-10 week waiting time is killing me, haha. Andy, those loafers would definitely fit in to my wardrobe. I might have to take a look at them as I've been thinking about a pair of brown casual loafers that I don't mind knocking around in.

Srynerson: I'm sure I got a new pair of lace ups (Oxfords) recently! ?? I do have and wear loafers mostly. It's California casual. I wear lace ups with suits!

eagle2250: I'll try a pair of Quoddy's soon! Thanks.

Master-Classter: If I have one pair of shoes/trousers and I get another, don't I have two pair? It is 10 million or 10 millions? And the color was odd (not at home now so not sure which color, but I don't think it was the darker brown.

OldSchoolCharm: I mostly wear socks with topsiders! Just seems more comfortable to me! ?? Maybe I'm just too squeamish to go sockless!

Cary Grant: I was just thinking they might be corrected leather and thus aren't creasing!

Andy,

I was wondering the same thing about the creasing. I recently picked up a pair of Gokey boat shoes (I'm guessing they are similar to the Quoddy shoes, only don't take 10 weeks to be delivered :) ). I have noticed that my Gokeys don't crease either. Oh, I am sure they eventually will, but they certainly aren't yet. I think it is because of the thickness of the leather and possibly the type of tanning process. I would say I doubt my Gokeys are corrected leather, at least they don't appear to be, so I don't think that is why your shoes have not creased.

LOL!~and indeed, the interminable wait, hurts so nice! If Quoddy told you ten weeks, count on 14 to 15 weeks for the actual delivery to your door stoop! And still, they are worth the wait. ;)

Well on the order the ship date was 8 weeks out, which would have been last Monday. Then I called last Wednesday and they said they would ship this Tuesday or Wednesday. I then got an email yesterday saying they would be shipped Friday. So their 8 week projection has turned in to 10. I sure hope they fit, I did a foot sketch and they sized me a 11.5 when I normally wear a 12.5 or 13 in most shoes. I did a second sketch and I think I'm supposed to be sized larger, but they know better than I do. Hope I don't have to send them back and wait another 10 weeks for the right size
