Well, if you saw my last thread, you know I was dealing with this issue with different trousers and different shoes. The trousers were of a very lightweight material and we concluded I probably need a cuff.

Fast forward to today. These are really heavy gabardine wool pants with a wide opening. Same damn issue. I have them set at the perfect height (using braces) and still I move the littlest bit and the same %#*@ issue!

See pics below. First two show how I set everything, last one how it all breaks down with the slightest bit of movement. I’m so at a loss at this point. I really hate this phenomenon...

At this point, @BigBrother, you need to take this issue up with a competent tailor. Diagnosing the problem from afar, sight unseen, is likely not going to work.

The best way to troubleshoot almost any problem within a system is to isolate the various components of the system that could be involved and testing each component, by changing aspects of that component that you think might be involved.

If you are experiencing this problem with every pair of trousers you have, and despite heavy material, cuffs, wide openings and braces all thrown in, you still have the problem, then the issue may not be the trousers. It may lie either in the shape of your legs/calves, or in the sort of movement you are making. If you take two or three pairs of your trousers (including the one above) to the tailor and show him the problem, perhaps he can figure out what is going on. A good tailor takes into account a person's body shape and movements when fitting him for trousers and jackets. Perhaps altering the legs of one of your "problem" trousers might help.

I can't recollect if the problem occurs with different types of shoes. That is certainly another component worth testing. Charles has suggested testing things out with dress boots, and this is worth a shot.

In any case, let us know the outcome, whether with dress boots, or with a tailor's advice.

Throughout the day I started suspecting that it was actually the (new) shoes in this case (which I plan to return!) The rear part of the shoe juts backwards so much that I had to insert not one but two heel pads to get them to not slide off (even though the toebox is quite tight). With my previous thread those brown shoes, which I love and fit perfectly, work well with other pants. So I suspect this was a case of confounding culprits- the shoes in this case but the lightweight pants in the other!

There is another possibility I raised today to my girlfriend while ranting about this: perhaps my heel actually goes further back than most men’s. This would result in a pant leg that sits further forward than for most men. I have no idea. I will certainly be testing many things.
