I too was admiring the Hickey sale suits as I endeavor to build a new wardrobe. Currently I own:

Dark blue and Charcoal, 2B-both 10yrs old

Of the sale suits in my size (44L), what do you folks suggest as a nice addition?

My favorites are the black/white herringbone and navy chalk stripe.

What do you wear the suits for? Otherwise the black is also pretty nice.

I am going to try to wear suits more frequently...wearing them to the office and removing the coat...perhaps wearing jacket/pants as separates sometimes.

I too like the herringbone. I was wondering if I should build up the charcoal and blue side of wardrobe first before looking at that.

I'm wearing the brown plaid right now...its a nice fit, but runs a bit on the slim side...my 38 fits more like a small 37, not quite a 36.

Charcoal high twist: I don't like the peak lapel - an unnecessary and ruinous tweak to a workhorse suit. You've already got charcoal, and if yours does need replacing as a standard versatile suit, this ain't it. If yours doesn't need replacing, this suit would be even more superfluous.

The b/w herringbone is quite cool-looking, but might be more limited in its practical usefulness. Could certainly be worn socially, to weddings, nice evenings out on the town, etc., but may not be as appropriate for strictly professional/business environments. I do really like it though. All of the above applies to the brown plaid as well.

The black mini stripe would be more versatile, certainly, and could look rakish for a night out, be worn easily to funerals/weddings, and comfortably pass muster for business environs. Really though, it depends on your attitude toward black suits.

Navy chalk stripe: I bought one, and love it. Great for business, work, and social occasions. Again though, if your navy workhorse suit needs replacing this may not be the best - a standard plain navy would be more versatile. If your navy suit is fine and you want to round out your suit wardrobe, this might be your ticket.
