When did the majority of men start looking like crap?

I was recently reading about the late James Callaghan, the British PM who recently died. It showed him in a crowd in 1965. The majority of men were wearing narrow cut suits or sports jackets. All had neatly cut brilliantined hair, and many were carrying raincoats or umbrellas. Some had trilby hats and a few were smoking pipes.

Then another picture showed a similar crowd scene in 1969. There were far fewer suits, but a dramatic increase in garish leisurewear such as anoraks, pullovers, jeans and tee shirts, etc, and a lot of men with shaggy, unkempt hair and sideburns and a general slovenly appearance.

I put the date where it all went wrong between 1967 and 1968, when the baby boomers came of age and began their tedious rebellion against their far better dressed parents. Any thoughts?
