Presented with the photo below, that question immediately popped into my head. :D Now the fine gentleman who publishes the blog in which the photo appears has very different sartorial preferences from me, but I enjoy the photos that he publishes of himself as I feel he has both a superb eye and audacity. He shouldn't care very much about my opinion regarding this photo, and I would be both surprised and disappointed if it were otherwise.

But the close-in shot which focuses so narrowly on only a few items just reminds me so much of photos, or more commonly drawings that appeared throughout my youth in a range of publications. These were commonly found in everything from the comic books I devoured to the IQ and MMPI tests constantly administered from middle school on to we young miscreants in an attempt to get a jump on budding serial killers and corporate CEO's!

So, if you wish to play, specifically what things are sartorially wrong with this picture? :D

The monogram is on the wrong cuff, and shouldn’t contain initials.
IDK if lefties wear a watch on their right arm, but I always thought it’s worn on the left wrist.
Affected unbuttoning of the last jacket cuff button.

Many lefties, myself included, wear a watch on the right wrist. I wouldn't criticise the tartan - not my taste but not wrong.

My issues would be:
1. Unbuttoned jacket cuff.
2. Monogrammed cuff.
3. Trousers don't go with the jacket.

What is "culturally offensive" about the Black Watch tartan? It's pretty ubiquitous, after all.
While it seems likely the above post is tongue-in-cheek, you missed the excoriation that once occurred here regarding that very tartan! ;)

In contemporary society there is apparently an opportunity to be personally offended by almost everything! :D

While not nearly on the level of the Black and Tans in Irish infamy, the Blackwatch regiment has a history in Belfast and Derry. And my post was definitely tongue in cheek.
And these guys have a history in the Dakotas, Montana, Wyoming, California . . . . Ah, heck, the whole country!

They're called the military. They do bad stuff. That's their job.

Any questions!?!?

Could you possibly link that? I tried using the search function, but there is too much on the Black Watch. My first thought was that it was deemed inappropriate to wear the tartan of that regiment, but since they have marched into history that didn't seem likely. The more recent conflict in Ulster didn't occur to me. I never had a dog in that fight, but I'll remember not to wear my Black Watch blazer if I happen be wandering around the Catholic districts of Belfast or Londonderry, which seems extremely unlikely, given my passionate loathing of travel.

No, I'm sorry, I wish I could but I never bookmarked it/them. There was at least one such upbraiding, but I think more.

There's ill behavior enough to go around throughout military history, but good guy or bad often depends upon which end of the bayonet you're on. :(

The Blackwatch have a history around the globe. Generally one of either kicking ass or getting their asses kicked the former outweighing the latter. Generally...:)

I have a kilt in BW that I need to drop about 10 pounds so that I can do more than pour myself into it.

For people with no direct clan association but who wish to celebrate their Scots heritage BW is considered a national tartan and rather generic vs a mistaken appropriation of the tartan of a specific military unit without personal association. Heck, there is a USA tartan a Conferedate tartan, a Georgia tartan, numerous university tartans...the selection of "officially registered" tartans is virtually limitless. One could wear the tartan of the 3M corporation if one holds a passion for Scotch Tape.

Cheers,

BSR

I have never had any desire to have my shirts monogrammed, but if I did the letters would be in the same color as the shirt.
The one the fellow is wearing reminds me of representing your company at a fair and having to wear a shirt with your company logo.
