I was sent the wrong size pair of shoes the other day by accident and I figured "no biggie, I am sure I can resell them to another client"...they are size 11D...well - I just discovered 11D is NOT a common size! I have always known 9 and 10 was pretty common (turns out 80% of my clients fit in that category)- but then I pretty much skip to 13 and other rather large sizes...I kind of thought there was a correlation between height and shoe size but now I am not so sure...soooo...that leads to my question...

How tall are you and what size shoe do you wear??

As a doctor specializing in surgery of the foot and ankle, I can tell you that there is a very "loose" correlation between foot and height size. Naturally, there is a correlation, but it's not always as dramatic as you may believe. Of course most people are relatively in proportion with certain body parts, but many shorter men do have larger feet than you would expect and vice versa.

My father (may he rest in peace), was only 5'5" and wore an 11 4E!!

I wouldn't have thought 11D is all that uncommon. Many people I know have a larger size than that, usually 11.5-13 (assuming we're talking about men).
NO KIDDING!!! That is why I kept the shoes! I was hot to trot that I had a reason to reach out to all my clients - they are shell cordovan Aldens that are not that easy to get!

I used to be 5'10", but by last physical had shrunk to 5'9-1/4". (Consider the truism, The Little Old Man. Is the man old because he's little? Or is he little because he's old?) But I still put size 11D, or less commonly, 11E on my mismatched feet. Right foot a bit more than 10 1/2, left foot a bit less than 11 1/2.

I can't recall the eponymous law enforcement term for the "correlation" of foot size/height, but it was discredited a long time ago.

Myself, 5'11 1/2" and a size 10D-10.5D.
