Hello, all. I have lurked around the AAAC forums for years but am only just now making an account. I have a concrete question to put to the hive mind here.

Are there any categories at J. Crew that are worth buying these days? I did some searching around the forums here but everything was several years old. I am in the market for plain (white / light blue) button-downs, polos, and navy / khaki / gray slacks. A family member tends to give me gift cards to the store -- hence my question. TIA

I like the styling of their casual clothes, and they fit me, so there's that (but I almost without exception buy on sale). For someone starting out, with the right body habitus, the Ludlow line of suits I think are very nice (again, at sale price), and pushes the short suit thing as far as I think is reasonable. Their collaborations with upscale brands, a project started I think when JC brought back Mickey Drexler, I think is really strong, and relevant to the OP's question I think they still have an OCBD collaboration with Gittman Bros., which looks nice. I've owned a variety of their casual pants, typically in their "484" fit, which is slim but not skinny. They seem to flirt with insolvency every 5-7 years so they always seem to need to reinvent themselves when that turnover occurs. One of my very first tuxedos was from JC, and it was so outstanding I ended up years later handing it down to my son, it was that well made.
