Also, you may find the pockets sewn shut. Cut those. When shipped, jackets are packed as sardines. Crush wrinkles fall or are quick-steamed out. Fold wrinkles, like your back flap is prone to, would have to be pressed, thus the thread.

The pockets, they are sewn shut...I hadn't even noticed :) Thank you kindly.
Should you be one with a propensity for jamming your hands in the jacket pockets, leave the basting stitches in and the pockets sewn shut...it's a great way to break a bad habit and keep your jacket pockets looking pristine! ;)

That's one way of looking at it.

Then there's this, recommended to no one but me. Each fall I go to $Tree for four Gatorades, the ones shaped like this...

...dump the stuff out, fill with well water and just before beddy-bye, stick them in the microwave, put on a tweed, shove a bottle in each pocket and trudge upstairs to prewarm the bed where this winter, bedside, it went down to 24°, but usually around 34°. When time to turn in, pocket the other two and up I go. The Harris goes in too because a freezing one's too much of a morning wake up. Would be lost without usable jacket pockets. Cuff buttons, neck ties, lapel hole, bottom button, all for looks. Hip pockets, where the action is.

Be sure to rummage inside all the pockets. Buttons are often in there in packets. Southwick graciously sends (sent 😢) all of the cuff buttons in a packet so that you can (could) decide if you want(ed) them sewn on or if you'd go the extra mile and have working buttons, a nice touch.
J Press Pressidential suits come like that too. So I went for it and had working cuffs made. One in navy and one in mid grey. Agree, a very nice touch.
