I confess that I am color challenge when it comes to lighter colors for jackets. With a few exceptions ( I have some Tan, Khaki and linen color jackets), I don't own anything light. When I try wearing some light colors, I start to feel like an extra on Miami Vice.

What are your lighter color sport jacket ideas and how would you wear them? What would you considered a classical spring summer jacket? Is Chambray consider one? Would you wear them in spring, too? Around here, summer can get too hot for jacket and it would be nice to be able to extend the wear into other seasons.

I confess that most of my jackets are for cooler weather. As I tend to be too warm, I typically forego them in the summer unless it's truly a dress up occasion. I have an old Brooks one made of silk, linen and wool in a toast colored herringbone with a pastel overplaid.

Yes, chambray is an excellent cooler summer jacket, as is seersucker. The traditional season for them is Memorial Day through Labor Day, but climate and occasion trump the traditional season, so as always, let common sense be your guide.

Both choices look nice with lighter stone colored khakis or traditional white ducks. They can also look good with light grey tropical worsted, or lighter tan gabardine if you want a dressier appearance. The seersucker can also work with the right navy trousers, but they can't be too refined looking in that shade to pair well.

My favorite jacket is a half lined summer weight blazer in a shade of blue just a tad lighter than navy. A nice linen/wool blend. Sadly, it's about to become too big on me. Thankfully I just had the perfect occasion to wear it this past weekend. I wore it with burgundy chinos and a white shirt with a small windowpane pattern, and light brown tie with pindots. It might sound unusual but I thought it worked well.

Thanks for the idea, it occurred to me that the reason lighter color jacket may not work too well because I have medium dark skin which is even darker in the summer. It seems to work best if the jacket is darker than my skin, which is why some of the light color jacket may not work. I have a blue jacket that's lighter than dark navy. That does work. I was considering a light gray jacket but feel that it's would have to be a darker shade to work.

Good idea. I'll recreate the ensemble and post a pic tomorrow. I actually had a picture taken that day but the lighting is terrible and wasn't able to fix it to show the true colors.
