Stumbled upon in my travels, as ice cicles suspend from my nose, I find an ice cream suit. A tongue-in-cheek name once applied to white and cream suits for the summer season. While always striking, we must concede their practicality is limited. But both issues behind us, what an ice cream suit!!! :amazing:

But me no buts, (I don't agree the DB lapels are too wide.) the proportions of this suit are sublime! Thank God someone still knows how to cut a suit like this!

Looks straight out of the 1930s! But with five buttons on the cuffs it makes me wonder if Tom Ford was also an inspiration.

When I was in high school (I was 15, so it must have been 10th grade), a friend and I were going sailing out of Miami, and we decided to get white suits. It was my friend's suggestion, but I deemed it a good one.

I got a pink shirt to wear with mine, as it seemed "Miami-ish" (and this pre-dates the "Miami Vice" TV show, so it's unclear to me where that idea came from); he scolded the choice, saying a bolder contrast was needed... he got a black shirt. I thought he looked like a gangster.

The real trick was shoes. I think I finally wore brown loafers; I apologize to the forum for this.

We sailed to Freeport, and then on to Nassau, where we hit the casinos and wore our white suits. Good times! I expect we looked pretty ridiculous, a couple of gangly, costumed schoolboys.

Funny, I can't recall being fleeced, though we must have looked like the easiest marks ever. We were, however, solicited by several women of negotiable virtue; we politely declined. Gambling-wise, I came out $30 ahead.

In my 20s, living in Bangkok, I had a kind of off-white linen suit. Pretty colonial, in retrospect.

I think I'll finally get a proper "ice cream" suit when I finally retire to my leisure and hobbies.

A detail of which I was unaware. I believe Chan has a RTW line, I have no idea if this suit originates there, or was bespoke. But might this suit and Ford's share some particulars?

FWIW that's why the two linen suits I've had made were SB even though I prefer DBs in general.

I think he's trying to be accurate to the late '30s., a time when most single-breasted suits would have meant three pieces. A two-piece DB is cooler than a three-piece SB.

This thread makes me rueful that in retirement I really can't afford W.W. Chan anymore. However, they did make me a lot of fine duds in my time of prosperity. The nearest thing I have to an "ice cream suit" from them would be a tan suit made from Harrison's Frontier hopsack.

If Chan now has a ready-to-wear line, they've never let me know, and they still send me notifications of their US tours, which afflicts me with a certain melancholy, remembering my many joyful meetings with them.
