Hello All-
First, I want to say that I'm pleased to finally return as an Ask Andy member after a decade-long lapse! Happily, I've continued enhancing my sartorial savvy during my extended time away from AA membership, learning by lurking, so to speak; although I am still very much a consumer, rather than a producer or purveyor, of fine men's clothing and shoes.
Now to my query: I have just purchased via eBay a new pair of US-made Polo Ralph Lauren "Prestwick" model brown calfskin chukka boots for $145. (See photos)
I was wondering by which US shoe maker they were crafted and to what level (benchgrade? handgrade? leather/finish quality?), as well as more or less when they were produced and sold.
Re the former, on the basis of my online reading of past threads at AA and SF, they seem most likely to be Allen Edmonds-made, perhaps to the specs of their higher-end Independence line, although with a sleeker profile (e.g. chiseled toe). But to be sure, they could possibly have been produced by Rancourt, or a boutique US maker with which I'm not familiar.
And during what years were the "Prestwick" model offered by RL?
Would anyone perhaps be able to apprise me? NB I posed these questions to RL's customer service, but they professed perfect ignorance, as the model is not current. Thanks for your attention and interest-looking forward hopefully to having my curiosity slaked!
Cheers, DDV
