For maybe 25 years plus, my regular work shirt has been the Charles Tyrwhitt white twill, classic fit with classic collar and double cuffs.

I’ve been trying to buy a new supply for a few weeks, but with no success. I assumed that the post-Covid return to work had caused supply shortages. After trying again this morning, I spoke to one of their online agents. I was told that the line had been discontinued. Double cuffs are no longer available.

I find this astonishing. Everyone I know in the City wears white double cuffs. A good percentage must be Tyrwhitt.

This is very sad. After more than a quarter of a century, I shall now have to take my business elsewhere.

See below. I have just been in to order a white twill classic collar classic fit double cuff shirt.
No problem! ??

With due respect to Nick, he should visit his own website and try to order a classic fit, classic collar white twill in 15.5/35 sizing with double cuffs. It can’t be done.

Furthermore, his own employee confirmed to me this morning it has been discontinued.

As a consequence, I have today ordered four identically-specified shirts from one of his principal competitors.

As previously indicated, I’ve bought Tyrwhitt shirts almost exclusively for over 25 years, so it’s a big disappointment.

What we have here is a failure to communicate. Here’s what’s going on:

Prospero1b is correct—white twill shirts with a classic collar and double cuffs are no longer available from CT. And Nicholas Charles Tyrwhitt Wheeler is correct—those white twill shirts ARE still available.

Unfortunately for those of us who despise non-iron shirts, the Charles Tyrwhitt white twill shirts with a classic collar and double cuffs are still offered, but only in CT’s line of non-iron shirts. (You’ll notice that the blurb appended to Mr. Wheeler’s reply to Andy refers to non-iron twill shirts.)

But yes—anyone who wants a MUST-iron white twill shirt from CT is out of luck.

You can confirm the above information by going to the CT website. Use the filter to select non-iron shirts and twill fabric; you’ll see the twill white shirts with French cuffs. Then use the filter to select must-iron shirts and twill fabric; you won’t see twill white shirts with any kind of cuff.

Non-iron shirts are spreading through the world of menswear like a malignant tumor. Well, if those are the things that sell, those are the things that sell.

On another topic: Why do people in England have so many names? Three’s more than enough. Nobody needs four; that’s outrageous.

And four names are a pain in the keister to type.

Couldn’t agree more about the non-iron shirts. Horrible plasticky cloth.

On the issue of names, point taken, though Mr Tyrwhitt is widely known in the UK as plain Nick Wheeler. I suppose he thought “Charles Tyrwhitt shirts” had more of a ring than “Nick Wheeler shirts”.

While on the subject, why do so many American names have numerical suffixes after the surname, like “Arthur J Snooks III”? Completely unknown this side of the pond.

A rare disagreement 'tween Charles and I (I have used 'tween as between would have required Charles and me), few things look better than a non iron shirt when actually ironed, which I do and it's a s***t load easier.
I have agree in terms of a non-iron shirt that is actually ironed looking sharp and crisp.

That being said I swelter in non-iron shirts. For me, 100% cotton non-iron shirts breath no better than 60/40 blend shirts, I will not endure them.

I have not noticed the difference, but I believe you. Is it that the juice spread on the non irons clog the shirt pores?

I agree that non-iron shirts look good and are easy to iron (I like to wield a mean iron, too). The thing is, I’m sensitive to how breathable a shirt is—and to me, non-iron shirts don’t breathe all that well. If the textile industry ever develops non-iron shirting that breathes just as well as its untreated counterpart, I’d be pleased to wear shirts made of such fabric.

Numbers are used to distinguish progeny with the same name. Oliver Wendell Holmes was a famous American poet and physician. His son, Oliver Wendell Holmes II, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. It comes in handy.
Harold Wilson used to try to goad Alec Douglas-Home by calling him “the 13th Lord Home”. Douglas-Home said:”I suppose he’s the 13th Mr Wilson.”

Ask Andy has such influence! I’ve had a call from a lady at Tyrwhitt expressing concern about my original post.

She confirmed that the shirt in question had been discontinued and suggested alternatives, none of which, sadly, was suitable.

However, it was an example of excellent customer care and a reason why I shall continue shopping with Tyrwhitt, even though I shall have to look elsewhere for my favourite shirt.

Wha ? ? ?

Anyway just wanted to share -- First time I visited London (~6 years ago?) we were walking down Regent Street near Picadilly Circuse when what should I see buy a CT store!

I went in, the sales girls was slender and beautiful and charming. I think she was southern asian or part. She stepped up on the platform in front of the shelves containing the different shirts, she was light as a feather. It gave me a good view of her and I wondered later if she did that on purpose. Wow, she almost took my breath away. I had to presume that her charm was due to me being a customer, and though I did entertain the idea of asking her out, better judgement prevailed. (But who knows?)

The CT shirts that fit me best are the ones that need cuff links, which are too much trouble for me. The same model is not made with regular sleeve buttons. But I have one or two of their cashmere sweaters; the fit is good for me and they are fairly light weight, which is good for where I live.

Agree with the customer service.

Sorry if some of that was off-topic . . .
