Please advise concerning the most desirable fabric to use when making dinner jacket facings (lapels, double besom pocket edges, buttons).

Is grosgrain silk considered more attractive or elegant than satin? How heavy, how deep should the ribs of the silk be? Is there a fine grosgrain silk? Is there also a "flat" silk which works for such facings in terms of appearance and longevity (grosgrain silk ties are usually appropriate for casual weekend wear rather than the flat, polished silk of business or evening ties, so, I wonder about the use of grosgrain silk on the lapels of the most elegant of dinner jackets. In its use in men's ties it is at the "low end" of the silk ladder, not the most elegant.

Can you suggest firms which supply such silk for use in bespoke tuxedos?

Thank you in advance,

D. Myers
