Hello esteemed Askandy members,

Looking for your opinion on the best turtleneck colour on me? I tried on black, navy and grey. This is probably going to be the only turtleneck in my wardobe, so I'm looking for one that's the most versatile too! I'd probably wear a sports jacket over it if I do go out in the evening times!

I often wear turtlenecks, and have found navy to be among both the most flattering of colors, and the most versatile. And while you can easily wear any of the three colors, I think the navy most flattering, and expect you'll find it versatile also.

(And it has the added benefit of not being black or grey! )

I like the navy with jeans, but I'll diverge from Flanderian on sheer versatility and say grey. But I like grey, generally.

Of course, black works best with a shoulder holster, if you're a commando, or a secret agent!

I would also say gray. It flatters your dark hair and seems most versatile.

.....and another vote for the grey, but were the choice mine, I would probably buy one of each.............which probably explains the condition of my closet(s)! If you are limited to just two, go with the navy and the grey. I am not a fan of black garments on men.

Wow thanks for all your input, I really didn't expect grey to be the overwhelming vote... I honestly always thought Navy was the best color for me ( guess I need to rethink my wardrobe!)

A vote for black.It works with your jet black hair.And forget the reasoning,I trust what I see. I think it is a John Wick vibe look to you.

If I could have only one turtleneck, it would be black.

It provides the perfect backdrop to outerwear and a sports coat.

I also think the black one really makes you pop. To my eye the other colors look a little drab on you in comparison to the black one.

You've had only 6 or so opinions. Before you rethink your wardrobe, send those photos to several women you know to get there opinions on which looks best on you.

Versatility might depond on how well it goes with the colors in the slacks, sport coats or overcoats and scarves you will be wearing with the turtleneck.

Black and navy are the two “must haves” if you’re just starting off. Then you can move on to other colors.

Another consideration would be the color of the sportcoat you intend to wear it with. I'd think you'd want a bit of contrast, so if your go-to sportcoat is gray for instance, then better to go with the navy or black.
